Weekly Accountability Checkin

How did everyone do this week?  Please share your health and fitness goals, struggles, and victories.

I am 3 weeks postpartum, and I got in 3 runs last week and 2 P90X videos.  I am 10 lbs away from my pre-pregnancy weight.  Next week, I hope to get in 3-4 runs again and possibly up one of the runs to a 5 miler.

Re: Weekly Accountability Checkin

  • we just got back last night from a 10 day vacation, so I'm itching to get back to my workout routine.  We ate out quite a bit and the only exercise I got was walking around the mountains.

  • Only ran 2x last week, but got out for at least 1 walk each day. This week starts the first official week of cross country practice with my runner girls. It's a little strange being at the back of the pack and not the front. My goal this week is 4 runs and 2 weight sessions in addition to my nightly walk. DH is starting to love our walks. I hope LO enjoys them just as much when she arrives.....6 weeks until she's due!!

  • I have been lurking on this board- but would like to join in with the check ins. I am 3 months post partum and have 15 lbs from this pregnancy and 10 from my first pregnancy left to lose. I struggle to find time for activity but have been walking 5-7 km each night for the past week but the scale has yet to budge. I would love some ideas and motivation.

Your nutrition is the key to losing weight/body fat, and activity definitely doesn't hurt. As far as "finding time," you may not find any. I've found I have to make time for my workouts as I would with any other appointment. It's a commitment I make for myself and in turn, for my family who will have a healthier and happier me around for longer as we grow together. I teach and coach, so working out in the evening isn't an option when I go from school all day to the bus to the meet or match and back to school near midnight. My solution is to always get my workouts in right away in the morning. Some nights it means a little less sleep, but I'm very careful to not sabotage my workouts by skipping out on too much sleep since that wouldn't be beneficial either. I wake up at 4 o'clock each morning during the week, and a bit later on weekends to ensure I take an hour of time for me before I give of myself all day. It makes a huge difference for me to make sure I make that time.

As far as making that scale budge, I highly encourage you to look at your intake very closely. Even if you're eating within a range of calories where you could be losing weight during the week, too much or too many adult beverages on the weekends can sabotage any caloric deficit you've created for yourself during the week.

If you're not sure where to start, look for a nutritionist in your area. It is so important to know how the food you eat will affect you and hopefully help in achieving your goals. It' s never fun to feel like you're putting forth effort with no results! Best of luck and keep doing what you can!

  • I was really diligent with eating and exercise this week but only losy 0.2 lbs. Kinda bummed. I am very sore from a 2 hour work out on wednesday, though. Overall I have lost 5.8 lbs in 4 weeks but I have been eating 1200 calories a day or less and worked out at least once a day everyday (except 2) and most of my work outs are an hour or more....so I honestly thought I would have lost more.

While I'm not sure of your current weight/stature, it is not advisable to be consuming less than 1200 calories each day. 1200 is a bare minimum for the vast majority of people and I hope you are under medical supervision. It can really lead to some serious health issues if you continue with a prolonged diet and exercise plan like that. You can do a detriment to your lean body mass (muscle) and metabolism by under-consuming by too much. While it's true that a deficit is necessary for weight loss, there is a balance. Sometimes people fail to see continued progress in weight loss because their body goes into "starvation mode" and starts holding onto anything you eat instead of using it as fuel. I wish you luck in your goals, but please be sure to check with a healthcare professional about your current approach. I'd hate for you to sabotage your health in the process!
