Cloth Diapering

Wash routine help.

I have the most basic bare bones washer ever made it seems. My only options are hot wash, cold wash, and warm wash. Each temp then has the option to select heavy, medium, or light and there are three different load size options.
I have no option for extra rinses, either with a cycle on its own. I can rinse by starting a cycle in the middle, but apparently there is no way to do a hot rinse, even the hot wash rinses on cold.
So knowing all this how would you wash?
I have been doing a cold rinse, hot wash with detergent, then cold wash.

Re: Wash routine help.

  • I would do what you've been doing except use a warm pre-rinse instead of cold. I'm kind of envious that you have a simple washer b/c it makes it much easier to get enough water in there to get the diapers nice and clean.

  • I have a super basic machine too.  Only can wash on cold warm or hot.  All have cold rinses.  here is my wash routine.

Cold wash cycle as a "rinse" cycle with detergent (to fight stains)
    Hot wash cycle with detergent
Short hot wash cycle no detergent as my "rinse" cycle

I have been using that routine for 8 months and works really well for me.  Using a short hot cycle at the end rinses better than a cold rinse and seems to get all the detergent out of the dipes.

Sounds pretty similar to my washer. We always have stink issues so I do full cycle wash on hot (heavy), full cycle wash on hot again (heavy) but with detergent and sometimes vinegar in the rinse, then start mid cycle for a 2nd rinse (regular cycle but don't think it makes a difference for the rinse) which I think it does all cold rinses like yours. I hate MF bc it's so hard to fight the stink issues. My wash routine takes forever. I'm so tempted to try prefolds.

  • I thought vinegar was a no no on cloth diapers?

  • This sounds exactly like my washer. I do cold rinse, hot wash, cold rinse.
    Same here!
