Re: Purchasing baby items
This is asked a lot, and answers are all over the map. We bought stuff before we were matched. There were several people on here and elsewhere who had quick matches. They felt flat-footed trying to buy stuff with a newborn to care for, and wished they had prepared better.
We ended up buying a crib, stroller, car seat, and PnP while we were waiting. We also started buying cloth diapers and clothes here and there. It gave us the opportunity to find things on sale and just add to our pile as we wanted. We still didn't have important things, like a crib mattress, when DD got here. And she was an emergency placement (already born when we were matched) so we had about 18 hours between The Call and bringing her home. DH ended up leaving me with her the first night home so he could clean out WalMart, LOL.
It's really based on comfort level though. Some people don't want a lot of stuff sitting around in case something goes wrong or if their wait is too long. Some people feel fine with heading to the store for a major shopping spree when baby already gets here.

Moving forward with domestic infant adoption!

It all depends on your comfort level.
