Babies: 6 - 9 Months

Are Soothies bad for baby's teeth after 6 months?

My baby girl has loved the soothies pacifiers since Day 1. She's now a few days away from turning 7 months. My mom said she recently read that  we need to switch to a pacifier with a flat shape so that it won't mess up her teeth (shes growing two on the bottom right now). After looking up the Avent Soothie Pacifiers myself, it does say 0-6 months. However, my daughter HATES the flat shaped pacifiers and will yell all night until I give her a soothie, which finally puts her to sleep. So my question is:

Will the soothies mess up her teeth if I keep using them? Should I work on weening her off them and turning her on to the flat ones?

Thanks!

  • i have no advice, but I hope not - DS loves soothies. Luckily we do not have teeth yet though.

I am not sure about affecting the teeth, but the teeth will affect them.  Meaning that when they have teeth they can chew up the soft plastic of the soothie and swallow it, so you need to switch to a pacifier with hard plastic so baby can't chew it up.
This. DS shoved the whole 0-3 soothie into his mouth around 5 months. Thank god I was next to him when he did it. I threw all the softer ones out the same day and bought the 3+ months ones.
