Blankies

When is it time to give up a blankie? My ten year old still has her blankie but it stays in her bed permanently. At what age is it inappropriate for a child to sleep with a blanke? Or is it never problem?

Re: Blankies

  • I still at 28 have my puppy... Do I need it to sleep? No but I like to have it and I know quite a few of my other friends do too I wouldn't worry about it

  • What's the need to take it away...? I passed down to my DD my bunny that I slept with up for like 20 years.

  • I personally don't get it.  I don't understand all the parent that feel they need to take it away.  Some kids give it up on their own and others keep it longer.  I too, have friends that slept with either a blanket or stuffed animal till they were older or got married.  So what, it's not hurting anyone. IMO

  • My brother still has the pillow case that replaced his blankie when it literally disintegrated away.  Its ripped apart, but I'm pretty sure he still has it.  He's 35 yo.  Who cares?  Kids have their lovies, they should be able to keep them until they choose to stop using them.  If she was 10 and dragging it around everywhere with her, then, maybe I'd be concerned, but if it stays in her bed, leave it alone.

  • I was 31 when I gave mine to DS.  Now he sleeps with it.  So, really, never.

  • Thank you all! And don't worry, the blankie is staying as long as Ava loves it.
