Babies: 3 - 6 Months

Does this sound like 4 month sleep regression??

DD just turned 4 months old.  Starting around 2.5 months, she slept very well in her crib, swaddled at night and for naps.  At night, I would nurse around 7 and she would sleep until 3 or 4, nurse again, and (usually) go back to sleep until around 6 or so.  In the past week, she has been going to sleep like normal but waking at midnight after getting her hands out of the swaddle.  DH tries several times to get her back to sleep (I don't because I know that she will want to nurse if I go near her) but he is usually not successful so I end up nursing.  She is then up again around 4 to nurse and then back to sleep.

She is having a similar issue for naps.  She will sleep for 30 mins and then her arms will start flailing out of the swaddle.  I often rock her and she will fall back asleep only to wake up in 10 mins or so.  Sometimes (like today) after rocking her 3 or 4 times, I put her in the swing and she continues to sleep.

She is in no way ready to no longer be swaddled and she isn't rolling over yet so it's not a safety issue.  It is just driving me crazy that she seems to be regressing in her sleep habits.

  • My little guy is going through this stupid sleep regression phase too. I have no pointers, as I feel like a walking zombie. However, he started breaking out oh his swaddle at 2 months so we bought a woombie. It's like the swaddle sacks without the arm holes. Money well spent! His arms have no way to get out despite his Houdini moves. I think they sell them at babies r us, but I got mine from woombie.com. Good luck!

  • How do you know she is not ready to get rid of the swaddle? Have you tried putting her to sleep without it?

  • I am pretty sure she is not ready to give up the swaddle...she squirms and gets her hands in her face and then wakes up (if she can even be put down and stay asleep without it).
