things forgotten

I can't remember the last time I had a leisurely drive by myself. I had to drive across town a couple of times for job interviews last week, but those drives were pretty stressful. Today on the way back from the vet, DD was asleep, the cat finally stopped yowling, and DS was with FIL - I was so relaxed I forgot that I even had DD and the cat with me, and I realized I've forgotten what it's like to be alone in the car and just enjoy the drive.

  • I've forgotten what it's like to be in the house alone. It's been a couple of years.

I had a couple of times alone at home before DD was born. That was really weird. I didn't know what to do and ended up wasting the time. Ha.

When I was near the end of this pregnancy, DH took DD out a couple of times without me.  It was so weird being home alone.  I almost had a panic attack because I didn't know what to do without someone else to take care of!

  • I went to my 6 week PP checkup alone on Tuesday.  First time out by myself.  It was almost unnerving.

Did you keep checking the backseat? I kept forgetting they (or at least DS) weren't with me.

YES!!! And then I'd get startled when I didn't see the infant bucket behind me! It was so odd to be alone.

  • DH took Lincoln to church with him Wednesday night and I just sat on the couch and vegged.

Wait, how the flying fuck did you get a cat to stop yowling in the car?  Drugs?

And yeah, I don't remember what being alone in the house is like.  It hasn't happened in at least a year.  Although I think DH did take Joey to the store once last month by himself.  But I'd just gotten home from work and was napping so I don't count it.

I hate DH.  Last time I took Joey out of town to visit my family for the day alone (you know, since DH works 12 hours on Sundays)  and he took a half day and went home and played video games for 6 hours. I wanted to throat punch him.

He just stopped. It was pretty uncharacteristic of him. It was a pretty untraumatic vet visit, though, so that probably helped. The car ride was also long-ish, so he had time to calm down.

Or maybe it was because it's the first time he realized that DS can't chase/pester him if he's in the car...

My vote goes to unexpected safe haven :)
