I can't remember the last time I had a leisurely drive by myself. I had to drive across town a couple of times for job interviews last week, but those drives were pretty stressful. Today on the way back from the vet, DD was asleep, the cat finally stopped yowling, and DS was with FIL - I was so relaxed I forgot that I even had DD and the cat with me, and I realized I've forgotten what it's like to be alone in the car and just enjoy the drive.
Re: things forgotten
YES!!! And then I'd get startled when I didn't see the infant bucket behind me! It was so odd to be alone.
He just stopped. It was pretty uncharacteristic of him. It was a pretty untraumatic vet visit, though, so that probably helped. The car ride was also long-ish, so he had time to calm down.
Or maybe it was because it's the first time he realized that DS can't chase/pester him if he's in the car...

My vote goes to unexpected safe haven
