Convertible Carseats

Talk to me about convertible carseats. When did you move your LO to one and which one did you buy and why?
I think we still have a couple of months but I'm a girl that likes a deal, so once I pick one I want to start stalking stores to get a good price :)

Re: Convertible Carseats

  • We moved DS to his convertible seat at 7 months. His seat is the Britax Advocate.

  • You can move them anytime before they outgrow their infant seat as long as they fit into the seat you choose (some convertible seats have higher bottom strap slots and don't fit babies till 6-9 months give or take).

I highly recommend joining the group Carseats for the Littles on facebook to get seat recommendations. The group is full of many amazing and helpful carseat techs and carseat enthusiasts.

My son is almost 11 months old and will still probably fit in his infant seat (Britax Chaperone) for another year or so, but we just realized if we bought a convertible seat now rather than later, my husband and I could each keep a carseat in our car rather than switching the infant seat from base to base. Wish we had thought of this genius plan sooner! This way we will also get to try out the new seat for awhile before we decide if we want to buy the same one or a different model for the second car when my son does finally outgrow is infant seat. We chose the Britax Roundabout Classic for our convertible, because it passes all the safety tests, but still seems comfortable for my son (not too restricting). Also, it looks good and the price was right ;)
  • We have a Diono Radian RXT and we like it. We chose it because DD is 99th percentile and we wanted a taller shell. It is also narrow and I thought it would fit well in our smallish car.

  • My kiddos were happy in their infant seats, so I didn't move them until they were 15 and 18 months. I recommend the chicco nextfit. Very easy to use and the seat will last a very long time because of the tall shell.
  • I didn't use infant seats for my first four. With S she was in a Graco Snugride 35 and nearing the limits. We got the Sunshine Kids Radian XT (same as the Diono Radian RXT) because it was the tallest seat on the Canadian market at the time. The Foonf didn't come out soon enough, and then they lowered the limits on the Canadian version to 40lbs, or I would have got that instead. It installs better ff in the 3rd row middle than my Radian does, the only advantage I can see. DD is 39lbs in clothes, 40" and 3 in October. Either way she'd outgrow either height wise and the Foonf weight wise rf by then.

Car Seat for the Littles gets my vote too, you may not need seats like these depending on stats, car, and budget.
