Which nickname for Vanessa?

We are naming our daughter, Vanessa Claire.  It seems like a big name for a little baby and we'd like to use a nickname.  Which nickname do you like for Vanessa?  Vanna, Vonnie, Nessa, Essie?

One of my co-workers is a Vanessa but goes by V.

Nessa, Essie and Vanna seem really forced.  Vanessa is such a pretty name I don't think it needs a NN.  I also don't think it's too "big" for a baby (FWIW I have a Josephine).

You might even come up with something as a NN that has nothing to do with her name.  We often call DD Monkey.

I think its a beautiful name.  I would wait and see what nn comes naturally to you.  The nn's I have for my kids are nothing like I thought they'd be before they were born.    That said I think Nessa is cute    I don't care for Vanna or Vonnie

I begged for DD to be Vanessa I thought just using "Vee" for short was really cute.

On the other hand, I actually knew a Nessa and I was adamant that wouldn't be a nickname option.

My cousin Vanessa (a very happy soul) gets called Van, Vanna, Vandoosa, and Vandanna. Mostly Vanna.

Nessie would be my pick from what you mentioned. You might want to wait and see what nn evolves once you meet her.

I don't really like any of the nn's, but I love Vanessa. The Vanessa I know either goes by her full name, or simply by V.

I think most of the nicknames ruin the name. Vanessa is beautiful. If a nickname happens, let it happen naturally. I only know one Vanessa and she goes by her full name.

If I didn't use her full name (which I probably would), I would use V or Van probably. You COULD also use Vancy, which combines first and middle.

Why not wait and see what comes naturally and eventually what she wants? I'm a big believer in letting nicknames happen. Call her Vanessa or V If you like and then wait and see what other nn comes naturally or what she chooses. You'd be surprised how picky kids are with their own name. DD is three and adamantly doesn't like it when people call her anything but her full name.

My first thought was definitely Nessa, I think it's cute.

As a baby I was Ness or Nessa. My family still calls me Ness and my friends in HS and beyond call me V or Vanessa. Once a teacher called me Vanny but it didn't last long- I hated it.
