I was going to say my LO had the same thing until you added the part about the elbows - that sounds like excema.
We realized (this is embarrassing) when she was about 5/6 weeks old that we never really scrubbed behind her ears during baths, and it was kind of scaly back there. A couple baths later it was normal! In my defense, we were preoccupied with her stinky neck!
Our lo behind the ears gets stinky just like his neck, arm pits, back of knees..
Add wrist and ankle rolls to that and you have DS. The gets gunk everywhere. Oh and don't forget the toes. I really do bathe my child, but somedays it doesn't look like it.
B had nasty skin behind the ears. I scrubbed even on none bath days. It was scaly, yellowish, and stinky. Only behind the ears though, not elbows. Anyway, we switched from Johnson and Johnson soap/lotion to Burt's Bees. Problem solved.
My LO has scaly skin behind her ears, too. I am thinking that it might be caused by her bib rubbing her there constantly throughout the day when I feed her. We switched from Johnson and Johnson to Aveeno Eczema Therapy with no fragrance and it seems to have cleared up any eczema issues.
