Dadadada?

My 7 month old daughter has started to say dadadada. She knows I am mamama. lol. But her dad is absent. He is in the process of filing to sign his rights over unless he changes his mind.
I have a serious boyfriend. We plan on getting married and having children of our own. He is great with her and keeps her when I work & they have dinner dates.. ya know daddy stuff.
So my question is should he be called dad? PLEASE no shitstorm here. Keep it nice. Just honestly wanna know your opinion.

Re: Dadadada?

  • At 7 months your daughter is probably just repeating a syllable she has discovered and thinks is fun.

Most kids and adults I knew who were raised by their step father with no involvement from their bio dad called their stepdad "Dad".

  • We've only referred to DH as poppa. My 1 year old occasionally babbles daddadada too. It's just babbling. It's not connected to a meaning.
  • I second the language is just probably a sound right now with little meaning.

I had a step dad and a father; both I called dad.

  • I, too, think at this age it's just babbling. But I think your question is more if SO should be called "daddy" or not.

My advice is please don't let your kid call anyone daddy until it is clear that there is a permanent commitment there. No shitstorm, but for me that would have to be more than a boyfriend I've been with for less than seven months.
