Re: Pregnant & TTC After a Preemie Check In 8/01/13

  • I just got some frustrating test results.

So long story short, when DS was born, he was missing a thumb and some of his ribs - all on his left side. We did not know about any of this until after he was born, in spite of the 9 million tests I was put through including constant ultrasounds. We had genetic testing done on DS at 3 months of age. It came back that he had a duplication on a chromosome and the geneticist told us that's what caused his issues. Being that we're planning on TTC-ing next month (eeek!), we had the genetic testing done on ourselves too to see if the chromosome abnormality was sporadic.

Well, it turns out I have the same duplication. And I am completely "normal" which means that this duplication did *not* cause DS's issues! So now we're back at square one, and being that we wanted to start TTC-ing as soon as we get back from vacation next month, now I don't know what the plan is since we don't know what caused DS's issues now. We go back to the geneticist mid-August, so hopefully she can give us more insight (and i'm assuming more testing).

It's just frustrating to think you have a diagnosis and then it turns out that wasn't right. FTR, we're on geneticist #2 because the original one no longer works at our hospital. I have to say I'm not happy with the first one because we should have started this process sooner being that I always said we were going for #2 sooner rather than later due to my age.

  • pinot- that is SOOOO frustrating! I am frustrated for you! I really hope that you get some answers.  I think not knowing is a million times worse than knowing IMO

Curling- that is FABULOUS news!!! I am so happy for you!

Nothing new here... DH and I are still discussing when we will start TTC... he's ok with waiting a bit longer than he wanted but doesn't want to wait until I originally wanted to.  That said, he may be trying to switch jobs so I'm thinking it will be best to be in a new job before starting a high risk pregnancy... so that may buy us some time!

  • This week was pretty crazy. On tues I went to work and when I got there I had a pretty bad headache so I had my BP checked at the dr's office in my building and it was 140/90 so when I called my dr she had me go to L&D. After being there for 5 hrs I was sent home my bp went down and I had a UTI. Then on Thursday I had my growth u/s at the hospital and she is measuring 4lbs 7oz while i was there my bp was high again so the high risk dr came in and told me because of the babies size and my bp he wanted me to go to L&D to get checked out. I told him I had just been there on tues but because of my history he wanted me to go again. Thankfully the urine and blood work came back fine and my bp came down again so I was sent home.

Due to the babies size I have 2 appointments this week with the high risk dr to check her size and my regular dr appintment with my OB. I was also taken out of work.
I made it to 36 weeks though which I am very happy with and dh and
I went out today to get some the few things we needed for her and our gift to give dd when she comes to the hospital.

  • @ pinky917 - thanks

I had an appointment with the High risk dr and an u/ s yesterday. My BP Is still high but the baby looks good. I will continue to have and appointment 2x a week with him until lo arrives. If at any point there is a change in placenta or how the lo is doing they will take her out right away. I obviously want her to keep cooking but I am so happy that i made it this far and these issues are just starting to happen.
