DH and I were disagreeing about this:

Did you learn the cups game as a kid? It's the one in Anna Kendrick's music video (and she does it in Pitch Perfect).

If so, did boys know it too or just girls? And where are you from?

I never knew that as a kid. I think I saw it on TV or something for the first time. I had no idea it was a well known thing! I still don't know how to do it.

ETA: I grew up in South Carolina.

Never saw it before watching the video. I'm in Milwaukee. I doubt if I had seen this done when I was younger that I would have been coordinated enough to do it. Sigh.

I vaguely remember something like that from Church camp, I'm in Michigan. We played it as a group, and passed the cups around the table somehow.

I went to school in OH and TX and I never learned it either place. I learned it at a teamwork training event for work as an adult.

Yep, this! I learned Flip Cup in college, but that is the only cup game I know.

ETA: I grew up in Northern CA and went to college in Arizona (ASU, where Drinking Games 101 is a required class, haha).

I was raised in Kansas and I saw it when I was younger. I never learned how to do it because I thought it was stupid. I knew guys who knew how to do it. It went through a really popular phase when I was in late elementary school or middle school maybe.

FFWC: I have never played Flippy Cup, Flip Cup, Beer Pong, etc.

My sisters and I rock at the cup game. I think maybe we learned it at band camp..?

Anyway, the other day I pondered "why is that Anna Kendrick song called Cups when it doesn't talk about cups?" And then my sister told me it was from the movie and they do the cup game and I was mind blown. And poor DU just sat there for twenty minutes while we banged cups around to the song. It was epic.

Never even heard of the "cups game" before this post. I saw Pitch Perfect (and watch it at least once a week, ha!) but I thought it was just a song, not a game.
