Tummy sleeping, redux

Well, we officially have a roller.  He's been rolling both front to back and back to front for the past fwe days (I think sped up that milestone because his bottom was so sore from his diaper rash), so instead of swaddling the last few nights we've put him in an arms-out sleep sack.  I lay him on his back, but this morning, he got himself onto his tummy.  So I guess there's nothing I can do about that now.

I'm super freaked out about this.  It has just been so pounded into my head that tummy for sleep is dangerous for babies.  After the thread the other day, I'd decided no way was I going to risk putting him on his side.  But now I guess he's doing it himself and nothing I can really do.

Man, I am a nervous wreck about this.  :-(

  • I hear once they do it themselves the risk of SIDS lowers.

Just do everything you can to remove suffocation hazards.

2 babies have died in my family from SIDS, both by the same parents. One was on his stomach, the other on his back. So I think SIDS is really a neurological disorder personally.

    That's terrible, so sorry.
That is COMPLETELY horrible.  How traumatic.

His crib is totally empty.  Just a fitted sheet.  I think I'm just being a nervous mommy.

  • Don't worry JSS, he'll be fine if he is rolling there himself! I used to let DS nap on his tummy and he slept way better, but after the recent posts, I have been putting him on his back again. Now he is back to taking 30 minute naps, boo. I can't wait until he can roll himself so that he will nap again.

Thank you... I know in my heart that is correct but it is hard after having it pounded into my head for so long about tummy sleeping+ SIDs... I just want him to be safe and comfortable!
