I work at a Y in town and was an MOD this morning. A mom was leaving with her 3 kids today (a 2ish year old {Emma} and twin infant boys), she is a regular so she stopped to chat with me and the front desk staff. Well her 2 year old was in dire need of a nap. She was upset, crying and didn't want to listen to mom, poor thing. Mom wanted to leave and Emma didn't. She sat herself down on the floor and started to cry and tantrum. Mom had the boys and Emma wouldn't budge so she finally took her boys out to the car while I watched her tired oldest.
Miss Emma didn't notice mom walked out of the building right away, and then she did...the screaming got louder and she tried to run out of the front door! So I got down on my knees in front of the door to keep her from running in the parking lot and tried to distract her with pictures of Alexandra. Well Emma wasn't having any of that and all I could do was sit and laugh at her, which was not helping the situation. I finally somehow got the poor girl's attention and she calmed down enough to talk to her. I told her we could walk outside but she had to hold my hand and she had to promise not to run. Well she did. I held her tiny little hand and we walked out the door to meet her mom. Mom was super grateful, and we chatted about our kids for a bit while Emma cuddled her mommy.
Thinking about how grateful that mom was made me smile the rest of the day, and I really really hope someone does something like that for me if I ever find myself in that situation in the future.
I hope Emma got a nap. :-)
My goofy little love. I love you Alexandra Marie.
