C-sections

Swelling

I had a csection on Thursday and am wondering if any of yo ladies can shine some light on how long you were swollen for after...my feet are like balloons! Also, my girl parts are scarily puffy. I'm looking forward to feeling normal again! Lol! Thanks!

Re: Swelling

  • It was down by about 2 weeks pp.  At my one week appointment I was still very swollen and they told me if it lasted another week to call and they would prescribe one dose of a diuretic to help get rid of it.  I didn't have to make the phone call.  I also had high blood pressure so I was pretty swollen beforehand too.

  • You can be extra swollen from all the IV fluids, also. Eat lots, like tons, of watermelon. It's helps flush it out. It was amazing. I swelled up a lot too!
  • It took about two weeks for my swelling to go down.

  • It took about two weeks for me too. One morning I just woke up and my feet looked completely back to normal. It's nice being able to wear something other than flip flops again!

  • I know it was gone by 2w for me.  I only gained 18 pounds, baby was 9lb 10oz.  I came home at 20 pounds above pre-pg weight (so I gained the baby weight, placenta weight, and an additional 2 pounds in fluid).

  • I retained water from my hips down for about a week.  I am sure I now know what a sausage casing feels like.  It wasn't until I was moving around in my real life that I really was able to see a reversal in the edema.
