Sorry my post spoiled it for you! He does die in the end...but it really is a very touching story. DOn't let that deter you. Definitely read the book, it's very good!
Yea, I hear ya! Between housework, work-work, and Gracie...reading is definitely a luxury! All this time off work is doing me good. I have read the first 2.5 books in the Twilight series in a matter of five days!
It is an illness that health authorities believe to be a virus but they are not exactly sure. Research is being done. It can affect anyone but is most prevalent in children under 5. It is not genetic and not contagious from person to person. It is believed to be an environmental contagion. It causes inflammation of the arteries, especially the coronary arteries around the heart.
The symptoms are a very high fever lasting 5 or more days, red eyes, a rash on the trunk and groin, strawberry tongue, cracked and dry lips, lethargy, vomiting, joint pain, swollen nodes, etc. If treated immediately with hospitalization and gamma globulins it will usually be cured, however the patient needs constant monitoring after treatment to check for circulatory system damage.
A very close family friend recently lost her 5 year old daughter to complications of this disease. She recieved treatment and was being monitored once a week with EKGs and Echocardiograms. One day she said she wasn't feeling well and when they took her to her dr her heart had become very enlarged and two valves had stopped working. She passed away of a heart attack a few hours later. Please check out the site I list in my sig. It is a disease that most parents have never heard of but became a harsh reality and rude awakening for my friend.
I am now trying to get the word across to as many people as possible to raise awareness of the disease.
