My almost 11mo old still doesn't know how to drink from a sippy. I've tried two kinds of sippy cups and now have the Nubby one with the straw. He holds it and puts the straw in his mouth and chews on it
i showed him first with a regular straw, i gave him the straw and he didnt know what to do so i took a sip first and he looked at me and then he did it on his own, so i say example is best! good luck!
Put the straw in the liquid and hold your finger over the end. Then put the other end in DC's mouth and release your finger. This shows to them that liquid can come out of the straw. Repeat this a couple of times and then let them try to use it on their own. It works like a charm!
We have been using the straw sippy for a few weeks. He chewed on it at first then one day he sucked looked surprised and for the most part will not suck on it every time.

We used this. https://www.talkingchild.com/shop_HoneyBearCupwithStraw.aspx When you squeeze on the bear, liquid goes through the straw so they realize that liquid can come through it. Then since it is so flexible, when they start to suck, it comes up easily. Now we're starting to use the regular nubby straw cups

DD had a ton of sinus problems and so she was on a lot of different medicines. We gave them to her in a dropper and she loved the taste so much that she sucked to get the medicine out faster. She became a pro and it worked for real straws too. I found that with the sippy cup I would just put her milk/formula in it and eventually she wanted it enough and it just clicked. GL, it just takes patience.
