Vent: there is a kitten crying on my front porch

I grew up a cat person, but somewhere along the way I turned into a dog person.  My mom was over this evening and when I walked her out there was a kitten walking up and down my empty street crying its head off.  I tried to chase it down to see if it had tags, but it would not let me near.  I tried for a good 15 min to catch the kitten and was not successful.  Finally, I gave up and went inside.  Now it is sitting on my front porch crying at my door.  I can't bring it inside, DH is very allergic to cats, and now that mom left I am home alone with dd, so I can't take it anywhere and drop it off.  I posted on the neighborhood mailing lists about the kitten but I don't know what else to do.  I can't listen to it cry All.Night.Long.  Hopefully someone sees my email and comes to retrieve their kitty.

So sad! My heart just breaks for abandoned and lost animals.

I'm a softy so I tried 3 more time to catch it without success. It left over night. I hope it made it's way home.
