Cloth Diapering

Switching to AIO

Hola! I haven't posted on this board since early 2012, cd-ing has been good to me! lol  I'm expecting #2 next year and we're rethinking our diaper strategy. Currently we're using Kawaii Baby pockets (snaps at home and aplix for dc). Works great, although I'd like to not have to stuff. Our favs when DD was tiny were our Gro-via AIO Newborn diapers (we did have ALL types of diapers at that point, though). We're thinking that we'd like to do exclusive newborn AIO for the new baby, and then convert our stash to AIO to free up some valuable time that would otherwise be spent stuffing. We might try to pt DD early next year depending on her, but I'd like to actually get some AIO's for her now to start switching over and then we'd have those for LO2 later on.

Has anyone else done this? Thoughts on AIO diapers to try? I really don't want to have to stuff doublers or anything if it can be avoided, but not sure which ones are the most absorbant. Help me out, ladies! :) TIA

  • I don't post a lot here but I lurk everyday. I have three kids but this baby is my first to CD. We LOVE our BG freetime. We use mainly BG diapers. The freetimes has two flaps and absorb great for us. My 7 month old is a small baby as he was a micro- preemie but he pees a lot! He is now a tummy or side sleeper and our freetimes have never leaked and he sleeps 8+ hrs. They are so easy to wash, dry, and put on baby. My dh asks me all the time why we have pockets and prefolds! They are like $1 more than the BG 4.0 at the store we buy from. We love them.

  • Swaddlebees simplex are awesome. They do have a tongue that you can stuff if you want, or you can just flip the tongue over and lay it on top...very easy. I'm also starting to love our tots bots east fits. Very squishy!

Dude, what store do you buy from??
  • I was just thinking I want to try the grovia NB AIOs.  Diaper Junction has them for 30% off right now.

I think all retailers have them for that price. I loved my GroVia NB but my DS quickly outgrew the absorbency. I've been very happy with the OS GroVia AIO and it comes with an extra snap in soaker which is nice. My favorite AIO is Tots Bots, the squish factor is off the charts but you still have to stuff them. I also have a couple Simplex and I'm very happy with those too.
Lets see, I also have BG Freetime, I like them only slightly less than my TB. I like Smart Bottoms too but I don't think the waist extends far enough.
The only AIO I really didn't like we're the BG Elementals. They are the only CD I had to explode with NB poo.

I buy from a local store called Baby Talk. They have a website... www.babytalkstore.com

I think the freetimes are $19 and the 4.0 are $17...so that is a two dollar difference. I think this is the standard price for BG. They have a loyalty program where every 8th BG dipe is free. I am so thankful to be able to go to the store and pick up what I need with no shipping! I only have a few things that are not freetimes, 4.0, or Flip. I bought one per week until I had my small stash of 13 dipes. Thats all I have and it works so well for us.

  • I switched from pockets to AIOs when we had two in cloth too.  I am obsessed with the OS Simplex.  I like that i CAN stuff it if i wanted to add more absorbency plus they're natural fibers plus they fit great.  I also like Grovia although it took me a bit to get used to the side snaps.  Freetimes are just "meh" to me because I hate spraying those suckers out.  I pray he doesn't poop when he's in them.  I don't get the deal with TotBots--the materials seem cheap for such an expensive diaper.  Nikki's has some cheap AIO options that aren't my favorites but are ok for helping to fill out a stash.  Thirsties are another ok AIO if you don't mind buying two different sizes.  If I could only  have one, though, it'd be a Simplex.  Simplex, simplex, simplex!
I agree, simplex is my fave. I really like my freetimes, too, though. Its funny, I actually find them the easiest to spray for poop. I also really like elementals, but theyre the worst to spray.

    I'm another Simplex fan!

FTs are cute and decently absorbent but bulky. TB is darling and fits great but I don't like that it's not stay dry. I hated GroVia; couldn't get it to fit without leaking at all.
