7 to 10 days means what?

So when they say you'll have the results of the MaterniT21 test in 7 to 10 days, does that mean business days or calendar days, typically? It's been a week of calendar days and the nail biting has begun. Wondering when I should start pestering my nurse via phone.

Re: 7 to 10 days means what?

  • Generally business days. Labs and such don't generally work on the weekends.

  • Thanks, I should have results by Friday then. I think I can wait that long. But have put a reminder on my calendar to call on Friday if I haven't heard by then. I think that's reasonable.

  • Typically business days :) Expect that, then if it's sooner you'll be surprised.
  • Actually, it depends on where your test is going.  The big labs like LabCorp, Quest, Mayo and ARUP are 24/7, so when they say 7-10days, they actually mean calendar days.  I work in a hospital lab and we publish our turn-around-times in calendar days, otherwise we would specify Mon-Fri/business days.

  • 7-10 days also might mean just how long for the test to be done and sent to your office.  The office has their own process for getting the results to the provider (MD/Midwife) for them to review before calling you.  So business days is probably a better estimate for the entire process.

  • It's sequenom and they surprisingly have a lab where I live, and they only have 2 labs in the US. I'm guessing mine went to the local one, but not for sure. I'm just impatient and waiting blows. There's a lot of hurry up and wait in this pregnancy process.
