Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

suggestions for 2 separate baby-proofing ?

1) I know the plastic guards to cover the power button, etc on the tv aren't very expensive, but has anyone done anything homemade that didn't cost anything? We have just started having the issue of LO turning the tv on & off over & over....

2) I've posted a pic of how our backsteps are and we're trying to think of something to make/buy to keep LO from going up/down them. We spend a lot of time out there and it would be so much easier if these steps weren't an issue. Any suggestions on this?? (You can't see it in the pic, but there is 1 handrail on the right side)

Re: suggestions for 2 separate baby-proofing ?

  • For #2, my dad is going to build us a little contraption for the stairs outside.  Ours our similar (no sides, but stairs are going down instead of up).  He's going to make 2 "walls" to go on the sides out of lattice work, and we can then attach a gate to the front of the stairs.  I'm not sure if he's going to weight down the base or if we'll have to drill it into the cement somehow.  Anyway, if you have somebody handy in your family they can do something along those lines.

  • I would get on of those play yards and just take 3 or more panels apart and put it around the steps maybe.

And we just told DD not to and turned the tv back on. We just lost a few seconds of the show an out on/ off button is a huge button flush with the tv so there was no real blocking that.

  • For the first we plugged the tv into a power strip that is out of reach and just turn that off so the buttons don't do anything!
We tried redirection but it didn't work on my kids till closer to 2, they would go back to it over and over and over for days on end at age 1 until about 22 months.
