Why the fuck... (PR)

has the transition to the big tub been so hard? LO is usually good at transitions, and he loves bath time, but he HATES the big tub. We've tried calling it swimming and also got him new toys, but he's not going for it. Anyone else have this problem? Any suggestions?

  • Can you get a laundry basket and put it in there with him.  Like put the laundry basket in the tub, fill the tub with water, then put the kid in the laundry basket?

Then, when the kid is ready, help him out of the laundry basket and into the big tub.

  • Fill the tub with LOTS of bubbles so he can't see the drain or how big the tub is. Also, don't drain the tub until after he gets out (never drain while he is in it).

What doesn't he like about it?
I have no idea, he has a speech delay, and while he is getting a lot more vocal thanks to EI, he still can't really express all of his feelings. I asked him, but he just says "no bath!"

  • In addition to bubbles, try the little tablets that make the water change colors and let him pick his colors and throw them in.  At Target they are in the kid/adult body wash and soap section.  Also, maybe the crayons/markers that you can use to write on the bathtub wall.

These are things that worked for us when DS2 was suddenly anti-bath.
  • Have you tried getting in there with him? We never used a baby tub, we just did sink baths until he was about a year old, or took showers and baths with him, which he loved.

  • I had one of those bath seats, and she loved it.  Otherwise, I would just hold her while I was in the tub, too.  I hope it becomes easier for you soon- Good luck!
