Two Under 2

XP: STM+ Soreness?

I'm currently 31 weeks pregnant with my third child (in 3 years, if that matters). I have recently begun feeling very sore in my lower abdomen/uterus (?), inner thighs and lower back.

I recall having this soreness in my last pregnancy, but I had irritable uterus with timetable contractions for a month before giving birth and always thought the soreness was due to the contractions.

I have periodic Braxton Hicks now, but nothing like the last pregnancy. So why all the soreness?

I already wear an abdominal support belt/binder. I am trying to cut down on heavy activity, but with two toddlers home with me, you can imagine I'm still lifting 35+ pounds at a time, shopping, cleaning, doing laundry, dishes and cooking etc daily.

I mentioned it to my doctor during my last visit, but that was before I was wearing the belt all the time and I was having a lot of contractions at the time so it wasn't my primary concern... I'll mention it again next week of course, but just wondering about all your experiences... Normal 2+ pregnancy thing from over stretched muscles? Worrying?

  • I'm 39 weeks pregnant with my second and I have a lot of soreness exactly where you're describing. I was told it was normal and I haven't had any complications this pregnancy.

I guess I just didn't expect so much so soon... How early did yours start? Have you found anything to relieve it? Even lying down doesn't help (although it's the most comfortable I can be). And it's hen I first get up from sleeping or lying down for a while that I notice it the most!

I literally didn't feel this much pain except for the few days after going birth each time!

  • I had the exact same soreness you're describing starting around 30 weeks.. It hurt the most after I had been resting and gotten up.. OB assured me all was normal, but I definitely was surprised how different3rd tri was 2nd time around!! I was uncomfortable almost entirely.. Then again, I too was having strong contractions starting around 34 weeks, but they were inconsistent.. Close together, but no pattern to them.. Anyway, I found a hot shower and a lower back massage from DH helped a ton.. And, limiting what you're carrying.. Easier said than done!! When DH was home, he did all of the lifting/carrying. Of DS1 (he's 24lbs).. That helped a lot, especially not having to carry DS1 up and down the steps... Hang in there Momma!!

  • Thanks for the reassurance!

Part of the problem is that DH is having back surgery on Tuesday... I try to limit how much he carries the kids, who are 25 and 35 pounds, and after Tuesday he won't be able to carry over ten pounds for the next month!
