BRU Vent

So I have had a gift card burning a hole in my wallet, and I had to go over to pick up my stroller today that was ordered for us. While in there, I saw the Lion King swing I wanted(my theme is LK). It was on sale for 20% off. So I picked up that, and some newborn diapers that were on sale. I also had a coupon for $20 off a $50 purchase in store. I attempted to use it. They told me no, because the swing was on sale. Then I looked at the coupon, and could NOT believe all the items and restrictions that prevent you from using it. Basically anything new moms might need, like diapers, formula, even toys, are ALL EXCLUDED! It has something about a sale item, but my item was a Red Hot Deal, and I did not see that listed on the coupon, but they argued with me, so I said fine, I would no longer be buying items from BRU, and any giftcards I had I would trade for somewhere else. 

I am all about deals, and the fact that BRU is already overpriced, then pulls this crap to keep you from saving some extra money, which as a new mom, I am all about...I will take my business elsewhere...

  • I know the same thing happened to me I had 5$ rewards and bought something online. I also had a 20% coupon. Well u can't use both online but you can in the store? I don't get it. They are anti saving people money!
  • Would have done the same thing lol. Besides, some stores like JCP admit to marking things up just so they can mark them down in an event "sale".

  • They are building a buy buy baby/bed bath and beyond near me and I can't wait for it to be finished I'm so over BRU!
  • I hate BRU for that reason. Their "discounts" are so beyond limited that its a joke. They have higher prices usually too. I haven't stepped foot into a BRU this pregnancy, I honestly avoid it at all costs.
  • I'd be plenty ok if I never shop there again. Unfortunately, they're the only baby store besides target anywhere close to us. Terrible customer service, too!

    Worst costumer service ever. I picked up my online order and the lady argued with me that there wasn't an order till I finally said can I give u the order # maybe that would help. She pulled it up and said someone will bring it up shortly. I said thank you so much for your rudeness!
  • I think it varies from locations. The one here has always been really helpful. When I picked up LO's crib the guy helped me out and since it wouldn't fit in my car, he took it out of the box for me even though he was not supposed to.

    This definitely. Dh and I went in last weekend to complete the registry. We were able to use the 15% completion coupon for each item, opened up a bru MasterCard to get an additional 15% off each item, and then used a 20% off coupon on top of both 15% coupons for the cosleeper, which brought that item way down. We ended up saving over 200 just with the coupons.

  • Location, location! My BRU took my 20 off 50 coupon when I bought something on sale. I used it towards a boppy pillow. The next coupon I got in the mail said it now excludes boppy. Stingy corporate company!
  • I'm sorry you had a bad experience with your BRU. I love mine, the employees are all so nice and helpful. If they can't do something for me (I tried to combine my gc's) they explained why they couldn't and seemed genuinely sorry they couldn't help. I haven't had to deal with many coupons yet (still have 1 baby shower to go!), but I can't imagine a sales associate arguing with me and me not asking for a manager...

  • Our BRU also has the worst costumer service and it takes any given employee about 20 minutes to check you out even if you only have one item!

  • Our BRU had a breast feeding sale that started yesterday so you would think the shelves would be stocked... I'm no. I have been waiting for a medela storage set to come in and all they can tell me is that it will probably be on next weeks truck. And on top of that I have had two items from them that ended up being broken! They need to get their stuff together.

    In this instance, they should be able to hold one back for you at the sale price, since it was their fault for not stocking correctly. OR you should be able to get a ship to store online, and pick it up for the sale price.

  • That really sucks. I keep trying to bargain shop to get the best deal on the last few things I need. But BRU is the last place ill go!

    The department manager said I could have the coupon discount that I have. But I have been waiting for this for two weeks now and they said they could order it online and ship it to my house but then I wouldn't be able to use the discount. And they aren't even sure that it will be on next weeks truck! And I would get it shipped to my house but everything that has been shipped had been broken by the time it gets here.     That's ridiculous! Bed, Bath, and Beyond/Buy Buy Baby is awesome with this type of stuff.  I am so sorry you are dealing with BRU being ridiculous!

    this.  ours isn't too bad.  ours, too, doesn't let you use the 20% off coupon on their red hot deals but, i've found that the red hot deals are better than all the other places.  we got both of our convertible carseats that we wanted for $300 total when regular price was close to $200 for each.  and, when we bought our rocker/ottoman, the sales guy helped my DH make it fit in our car.

  • I hate hate hate BRU! They pull this shit all of the time. They're a horrible company and I refuse to go in there.

    Do you have Buy Buy Baby? They take competitors coupons, are super helpful, and the store is really nice. I would take an extra drive naysay over stepping into a store where they treat people like crap.

    Anyway, sorry you had this experience. They should have honored your coupon.

    Definitely this. My SIL in Chicago was able to use competitor coupons. She used a BB&B 20 percent off coupon at BRU the other day. We don't have a BBB here where I live and the target kinda sucks too so BRU is usually the best place even though their selection sometimes sucks bc we have the small BRU inside a TRU. With the coupon thing, I have to agree with Soliel...all the coupons I've ever had for BRU clearly say on there you can't use it with a red hot deal. As far as the rewards dollars...it kinda sucks you can only use one per item online but how can you complain?? You can go to the store and get an item for free! I have 30 dollars in rewards right now and I can go get a 30 dollar item for free! Also, I was like Maritza when we got our completion coupon I still had a lot of items to get. I walked out with about 600 dollars of merchandise for around 300 dollars after all of my coupons and opening a credit card. The guy even let me do 3 different transactions so I could use all of my coupons.

    This is actually common with most if not all retail/department stores. JCPenny actually tried to change its policies to stop having big fake "sales" and just always sell their items at a reasonable price, and they almost went bankrupt (they're still recovering). It's part of the consumer mindset, we'd rather buy something that had been initially priced unreasonably and then marked down 50% and think we scored a deal (I think I read somewhere that the reward centers in your brain are actually stimulated by finding a "great" deal). So, don't blame them, blame us.

    How did you get 15% for the completion coupon, we only got 10%. :/
  • Sorry you had a bad experience. I do agree it varies by location. Mine gave us an additional 20% off when we had to wait in line extra long because of a tech glitch with their register. They also let me return stuff from my baby shower with no receipt that wasn't listed on my registry.
  • They drive me crazy. Went to go complete my registry and they were so incompetent I had to sit there for over two hours while they attempted to get the items shipped to my house. On top of that they refused to take back a bouncer I got at my baby shower because it didn't have a receipt.....are you telling me that with all the times that guests forget to include a gift receipt at a shower that you just don't take it back?

    Honestly, I have no idea. Does it vary by store? It was definitely 15%. I also remembered to write down the online code like someone suggested and got the same discount on the online only items.

My SIL put $50 on it, not knowing it's not actually a gift card. SO, even though they're more expensive there, we'll have to buy our diapers and wipes there until they're gone.

  • I have tried to stay away from BRU this time as well.  All things the PPs have said about customer service, wait times, prices, stocks, etc...

    On the other hand, I'm lucky enough to be able to shop at BBB this time!  I bought our stroller there and they Price Match (I used Amazon) and got to use my completion coupon, too!  The store is so well organized, the staff is friendly, and the stock is fantastic.  Just a note about BBB though- they do typically list things at the MSRP.  Just remember to price match, and use those coupons!

    Target is still my go-to for the everyday items.

  • I LOVE BBB. We have one right down the street. They're a little bit more expensive than Target or Walmart, but like PP said, they're great about price matching, and I love that I can use my Bed Bath & Beyond coupons there too.

    This EXACT thing happened to me, except my friend put $200 on it not knowing it wasn't a gift card! >< He wanted us to get the stroller we had on our registry with it (the store he went to didn't have it in store and he was too lazy to order it online). To make it even worse, we're EBF, and I was planning to use Honest Co diapers/wipes to try to be a little more environmentally friendly; also, the only BRU near us is like a half an hour away, so I wasn't planning on using them for necessities. :P

  • My friend says the same about buybuybaby. When ever she needs to buy something and use a coupon, it is excluded from the coupon. I think a lot of this varies by region or store. The toys r us by us is a competitor store (bbb is located across the street) and they have been so helpful. They have honored prices that. Have found cheaper one place else and everything.
  • I know it's been discussed previously, but when did you ladies get your completion coupon? I had heard a month before your due date, and we haven't gotten ours yet so I was wondering if I was wrong! (It could just be coming in the mail still as our date was 2 days ago!)

  • @BlondieBia21 I got ours around the 10th of July and our edd is 8/21. We got it more than 30 days before. Maybe try checking with them to see if it's en route to you?

  • @jill you can call their customer service and request them to take off the vib on your registry. i took it off just in case people thought it was a gift card.

    like everyone said its the location.when i got my completion coupon, i also had a lot of those 20% off coupons. i called one place they said i can only use the 10% off my total purchase but can only use the 20% off one item.
    so i go to another, brs they gave me the 10% and the 20% off all of my items but i had to do each item as a separate charge. i also bought a carseat the week before at a different store and they said bring in the receipt for that purchase so i can get 10% off from that, since it was purchased less than too weeks.
    also there was an item there that i wanted but they didnt have the color so they said when they get it in they will give me the 30% off but i ended up finding it in another bru, took it their and they gave me the 30% off. they r the best.
