Fever

Can we talk about fevers for a moment? It looks like D may have the start of a fever. I took his temperature at 830 and it was 99.1. I am going to recheck his temperature at 930. I am hoping it was just from him being so worked up from crying and now that he has ate and is sleeping it will have gone down. When I recheck is it okay to give him tylenol if his temperature is still 99.1 or higher or should I call his pediatrician first? Do I call the pediatrician if his fever is 100.4 or higher like they said before being discharged when they were born? I feel like I know the answers to these questions, but I want to do right by my baby and not screw up. Form mobile users he is 9 weeks old.

I would not give tylenol at this point because the fever is actually how the body fights off a virus. If you give meds prematurely, it could actually make any illness worse by delaying the immune response. If it hits 100.4, call the pedi. That's the guideline until they are 3 months, I believe. Hang in there, mama! I know it's stressful when they aren't feeling well.

I agree with elf! I would wait to see if it goes back down. Fevers are funny once they get older 4 month ds son had a 104.8 fever and I was getting scared an called the pedi and was told to not worry unless it hit 105. So when in doubt I always just call my pedi first and go from there. But yes with a younger baby you most definitely wouldn't let it get thy high.

All babies less than 3 months with a fever should be seen by a doctor. I was also given the guideline of a fever being above the 100.4 though. And I'd only use Tylenol if baby is fussy or uncomfortable with the temp.

My Dr considers anything over 100 a fever at that age. So I'd just keep an eye on him and if it gets to that point, give them a call. Hope he feels better!!

I'd follow Elf's suggestions. Is also call pedi if it lasted very long. I hope LO feels better soon.

Thank you ladies so much! I just went and rechecked him and it was 98.8. I will check again a little later to make sure we are continuing to go down rather than up.

Oh good. LO was probably just all worked up like you thought. I hope you both get some good sleep.
