Success after IF

Ugh

McNugget has another ear infection. This is his 4th. And, to make things even better, he's lost weight. He's now <3rd %. I'm not sure what else to do to get him to gain. He eats well, is drinking milk, and is still nursing at least 3-4 times a day. He was 17lbs 12 oz, fully clothed today.

Re: Ugh

  • Yikes for the ear infections! Does he eat tons of solids yet? Besides that I don't think there is anything you can do. Ds was in the 8th percentile for a really long time as well but now he has completely chunked up now that he is eating a ton of food and less milk these days. I wouldn't worry unless your doctor was concerned. He will soon be making the change to 3 big meals a day.

I am sorry about the ear infection. Great job nursing! That's impressive :) As far as his weight, if he is eating and drinking everything and he is otherwise healthy, I wouldn't worry too much. Did the doctor have concerns? If it makes you feel any better, my aunts' kids were both never even on the charts and they are perfectly healthy teenagers now :)

  • Poor thing. No fun. It sounds like you are doing everything you can for weight gain. Was the dr concerned?

  • Hope the ear infection gets better soon.

DD was in the 2% at 1 year and that is up from being off the chart at her 9 month. I wish she would eat more but pedi is not concerned. We are getting better with textures and the gag reflex. So I hope things continue to improve and she chunks up soon. I just try to give lots of what I know she likes and make sure yogurt and cheese are full fat especially since she loves both! Does McNugget like dairy?

  • Sorry about the ear infections. DS had a lot too so I know how you feel.

If your Pedi isn't concerned about his weight, then try not to worry too much - if you can. Every baby grows differently. I'm sure you are doing all that you can. Are you and/or your husband on the petite side?

Poor McNugget! I hope he feels better soon. Does he take solids well? Are you giving lots of calorie dense foods like avocado? Ask your pedi, but you can also add olive oil to his foods to add extra calories. Was the pedi concerned?

  • The pedi was concerned about him losing weight, but figured it may be because he's sick and hasn't eaten well all week (although, he did eat an entire meatball two nights ago). We have a follow-up in 3 weeks to make sure his ears are cleared up and see if he's gained.
