Any successful swaddle transition stories?

Especially stories where the first couple nights post-swaddle were rough but then it all worked out?

DD is too big for Rock n Play (has been for a while) and can roll while swaddled. She slept great with both (always woke up at 3am for a quick feed) but now we have to drop both.  Tried her in a Zipadee-Zip in the crib last 2 nights and it was like having a newborn (maybe worse!) I thought her arms would be the problem but it is her legs--which she throws straight UP. Crossing my fingers that if we just keep plugging along she will get used to all that space soon.

I think she will get used to it soon.

I have a Daughter born 2/26/2013. She is pretty much amazing!

  • we used the Magic Merlin suit and there wasn't any transition issues. just put her in that one day instead of her swaddle and she slept like normal.  Once she can comfortable roll from tummy to back (she rolls back to tummy right now) we'll try and drop the suit. right now she gets stuck and frustrated.

we had one rough night when we went cold turkey and after that it's been great. he'll be 4 mo in a few days and we stopped swaddling about 3 weeks ago.

  • We went cold turkey too. First night was ok, then went to a sleep sack that had a chest strap, now we just do Jammie's. No issues with any of these. I was surprised at how easy it was to be honest.

  • we quit swaddling cold turkey and it went fine by day 2.  as far as your LO kicking her legs up in the air.  mine still does the same thing even without swaddle and i think its a comfort or a play thing because i noticed when he wakes up in the middle of the night he kicks his legs up over and over and it eventually puts him back to sleep.  as long as he doesn't start crying i just leave him there to kick his legs up as much as he wants.

We are using a swaddle me right now with his arms out. He's always gotten his arms free so I know that's not his issue. My plan is to start with a tight swaddle for a few days then gradually loosen it. He's doing great with it so far!

  • Surprisingly the transition into the crib in the halo swaddle sack wasn't difficult for DD. Within 2 nights she was STTN. Last night we just unswaddled and again I was super surprised DD slept 9-5 without waking up. Good luck to you. It will get better.
  • We went cold turkey from Swaddle me - to zip up pajamas. It was rough for 5 days.
Then..she got the hang of it.

Now.... we're struggling with the paci. She takes it out (since she has her hands free) and then can't put it back in.... So I'm up every couple of hours (last night, every hour) to put it back in...
Currently looking into how to remedy this new challenge!
