Babies: 3 - 6 Months

How do you know when it is safe...

to buckle your kid into a cart at a store? Addie is my first and I decided I want to carry so we went with the convertible car seat. I did not take into account that is it a billion degrees here during the summer and Addie takes after her daddy when it come to the ridiculous amount of body heat she puts off. She has been sitting up unassisted for over a minute at a time since about 4 months and yesterday (just over 5 months) she sat on the floor for over 45 mins playing with her toys, not falling over once. Would you say it is safe for her to ride in a cart? Just asking for opinions or info on when STM started putting their kids in carts. Thanks!

  • Thank you Libby! I had this horrible image of her sliding right out of one of the leg holes.  :))  Im planning on making my own lining to cover the seat area so that should help with that issue.

  • DD was around 6mo and sitting well unassisted when we started sitting her in the cart. I got a shopping cart cover and that helped a lot. She still fell/slid over quite a bit at first. You can also use a folded up blanket to help prop them up.

  • The blanket is a really good idea. I was thinking about some kind of cushioning in the cover im making to help with sliding but the blanket sounds much easier. Thanks elaine

  • our lo is 3 months old and can sit assisted.  He hates his car seat so I usually carry him in stores which is not fun when grocery shopping.   I bought him one of those things you sit in a cart seat the one I found is made by Carters and has shoulder straps.

  • As long as she's sitting unassisted, then the cart should be fine. Just remember to buckle her in.

  • when my first was mostly sitting on his own, i would put him in the seat. but i'd alsokeep the leg holes covered, put on the comfy seat cover, and lay him down too. just depended on what was going on.
