How did you break the big news?

We're PG with baby #2 and planning on telling family soon.  I've thought about putting a big brother shirt on my DS and waiting for everyone to figure it out.  What are some other cute ways of telling family the big news?

Re: How did you break the big news?

  • I had DD show everyone her new favorite book -- "I'm a Big Sister".

  • I put the u/s picture into a frame, wrapped it and gave to to MIL from DS for x-mas.
  • I bought an I Love my Grandma bib and wrapped it up and gave it to my mom and my MIL... but that might not work since you already have one!

  • We did the t-shirt! I made one that said "Big Sister" on the front and 8-2-09 on the back. Then DH and I told the grandparents to look at Taylor's new shirt she got for Christmas (we told them on Christmas Eve). It was funny to hear them all reading it out loud (it was 4 of the grandparents together). They loved it! I was going to post a pic of her in it- I'll do that tonight.

  • We periodically buy family members tickets to shows or what have you so we can spend time together. For instance last year, in January, all the women got tickets to see Wicked together on Mother's Day in May, and at Christmas, the men all got tickets to go to the Sports Show.

To announce Baby #2, I made a Ticketmaster-like ticket in Microsoft Publisher and printed on cardstock on my color printer. It says "Admit one to A Sibling for _entersib'snamehere_" starring _sib'sfullname_as the big brother/sister."

I added other things like Please arrive on time with the due date; no refunds; no exchanges; Filmed in either pink/blue; co-directed and produced by _myname_ & _hubby'sname_

"Watch with awe and amazement as _sib'sname_ teaches #2 how to say Aunt Such&Such!"

We handed out the tickets in moneyholder cards that said a "Special Little Gift for You"

  • I love the ticket idea!  Too cute!  And the tshirt with the due date on the back.  I wouldn't have thought that far!  I have my first appointment on Jan 14th and we're hoping to wait til after that to share the news.  Doubt that happens.  We're pretty excited!  Keep sharing ideas though!  I'm loving this.
  • I like (but didn't get to use) the photo of your family with the:?frame - $10,?photo printing - $2.50,?gift wrap - $2,?the look on your face when we tell you there are 4 people in this photo - priceless.

What we ended up doing for most of our family/friends was making Xmas cards that looked like normal holiday cards on the outside. ?But inside the top said "Merry Christmas! ?Now get to work!" and had a small pic of our ultrasound. ?Then on the bottom we had full Martha Stewart instructions for how to make baby booties, with a deadline of our due date. ?It took most people a minute to figure it out, but it was hilarious watching the different reactions. ?Some people thought we actually wanted them to knit us something. ?

  • We took our picture and went to walgreens and put it on a card and I wrote Card $.50

Camera $250.00 realizing there are 3 people in this picture PRICELESS!

It was adorable to watch everyones face as they read and reread it and then looked at us and then got all excited! I wish we could have done it as Christmas presents but we just told them it was a late present!

  • I have how we showed each set of parents and our sibblings in my blog. Link in siggy.

  • I went to AC Moore and bought fabric markers and stencils.  Then I picked up blank bibs at Babies R Us. I stenciledon the bibs thinkgs like Over the Moon for Uncle Justin with stars andplanetson it or Going Bananas for Grandpa with an ape stenciled on.  The parents were so excited to show everyone the bibs!  Any the babies can wear them when they're at their houses.
  • So, when I broke it to my husband I hid it and then sent him on a scanvenger hunt in the house trying to find his last Christmas present when he got home from work. I recorded the whole thing with our new video camera we got for christmas. So in a few weeks we're going to have our family over for dinner and tell them they have to see this "super funny video". And show them the video of my husband running around the house tryingt o find something. We're going to tell them the funny part is at the end so they won't be expecting a thing. Then they'll see him pull the HPT out and the secret will be out!
