@terri_doula2010 I totally agree with you regarding the bikini thing. I will say, once they start potty training it is easier to go with a tankini style suit and just slip the bottoms off. My SD wears these horrendously exposing triangle top bikinis at her moms house and it just makes me shudder. At 7 years old I'm not going to put her in a long sleeved swimming gown, but a tankini seems to appease to her desire to look older, while still remaining somewhat modest.
Does anyone know if you can give blood while breastfeeding?
FFFC I've never given blood. I never weighed enough until after I had Keagan, then between BFing (I thought I couldn't), new piercings and then getting pregnant again, I have never been able to.

Whatever @cherrycrepe, those cookies are like 10 calories a piece, let's do it. I'm also o+ so they like me too but they haven't bothered lately since I've been malaria quarantined (from giving blood NOT from having malaria) until very recently.
I am also O+ and once they get your number they call like clockwork (My husband calls them the vampires). I did not know about the calorie burn (Thanks Anne) so I may be swayed now. But really, I HATE needles and I have little veins which usually means I end with bruises.
I'm terrified of needles - like, hyperventilate and laugh hysterically terrified. I've been giving blood since college in hopes that it will help me get over my fear. It hasn't. The last time I tried to give blood was right before I found out I was pregnant - I failed the anemia test and couldn't donate. I haven't tried again because I'm afraid it will mess with my supply...actually, it's because I'm still f'ing terrified, but I'm using that as an excuse. I'm already feeling anxious about doing it again after DD turns one.
At least I'm not the only one, Terri. That makes me feel much better. I was rushing both times. The first, missed a step and fell the last two. Yesterday, my flip flip got caught on a piece of uneven sidewalk and I couldn't recover. I have ms, but I don't think it is related. I'm thinking about switching back to the Vibriam toe shoes though. They are great for balance.

I read this as "terrified of noodles". I was like WTF? That's the weirdest thing ever!
Aaahahahaha...I read this during a meeting and it was SO hard to not laugh...

or go to mexico, or england, or college I guess. i tried to give blood for five years straight and they wouldn't take it for one reason or another. then when they would accept me, my iron count wasn't high enough. i try, i do, they just don't want anything from me.
@jonesaj what does reese's hernia look like? I'm just curious. Sage's original doctor was concerned, but her hernia has gone away, it appears. We are just watching it. On that same now, I'm sure many of you have noticed, Sage has two small "strawberries". One is on her chest. The other on her head.
Both doctors seem to think the one on her chest will just fall off. I don't even think about the thing. It's just part of her. DH thinks about how she will be treated when she is older. Should I be more concerned or just act as I do now? The mark is just part of her, ya know?

Yes you can give blood while breastfeeding. You just can't be pregnant or have been pregnant within 6 weeks. There are too many guidelines for donating for me to post but I'm sure you can go to the American Red Cross website and look at them.
I am very passionate about giving blood and I am glad my work has them come in every 2-3 months for a blood drive. It makes it a whole lot easier for me to give. I tried to give this past Wednesday, but it wasn't coming out fast enough so they decided to stop.
FFFC: I'm irrationally pissed about it because since it was so close to a pint but not enough, they can't use it.

JFC I don't think I can donate. It says you have to weigh 110. I am 109-111 On any given day. What say you s12? too close?
Another confession: The fact that I CAN'T donate makes me want to even more
I am not a fan of bikinis for littles. However, my sister bought one for Linden while we were all together on vacation so I put her in it a couple of times, particularly when we were at home and the pool was shaded. And despite mu general feelings on it, she did look cute. At the beach, though, she wore the one piece I bought.
I have O-. I gave blood once and had an all out panic attack. They told me to just give money from now on.
I keep thinking about trying again, but it was pretty rough. I was hyperventilating and trying to pull the needle out. I was at work too and a coworker and myself missed several hours (she was grateful!) because Red Cross wouldn't let me leave for a long time.
We did decide to go ahead with the open house idea for Marian's first birthday party. It will still be bear themed, and the cake will be scheduled, but honestly, it seems like such a better idea to me than throwing a full-on party.
FFFC: I'm not ashamed of it.

Why would you be ashamed of it? Nothing to be ashamed of. You are doing what you think will work best for your family and friends. Hopefully M has a great birthday party!

I tried to do it when I was under weight and they turned me away once. The 2nd time, I lied and passed out. After 3 kids, I no longer have that problem.
@jonesaj I hear you about the hernia. Ours is thankfully receding again but people are like what a big outie! And I've had strangers point at it and tell me how I should really get "that" fixed ASAP. I think your little Reese is beautiful and find your strength in the fact that you are raising a healthy happy smiling baby girl.
Charlotte's piggy lovey is really dirty and smells really bad. Like, embarrassingly so.
But I can't ever get laundry done while she is awake, and she uses it during naps/night time. So, smelly and dirty it shall continue to be - and go to school with her as such.

Ds1 has a stuffed piggy who smells like absolute shit and he rarely lets me wash it. Sometimes I can hide it in the bottom of the basket. He loves that damn pig.
My husband hates when the blood center calls him because they never want his blood - they want his plasma. Which takes a lot longer than a blood donation and he hates to spend the time. But he has really good blood (A+) and his plasma is muy importante. I'm O+ and Memorial Blood Center keeps calling but I haven't had the time to donate. I might be swayed, though, to make time for the calorie burn.
BUT I do negate the calorie burn when I sit and eat a bunch of cookies in the recovery area. Oops.
I actually do this 2 times a week. It's about an hour and I spend that time reading while Ashie stays in their daycare there. Mommy time by myself!
Andplusalso, does anyone know how to freaking not be writing in the gray box when you quote someone?!
