Since The Bump changed formats, it’s time for a new DIY Signatures post! I tried to include as much detail as I could think of and practically wrote a book, so I'm breaking this up by adding replies to this post, too. Skim through for the pictures if you don't like to read! Basically, if you're having issues with something, the details are there, but if you just need the quick idea, the pictures should show you which buttons to click.
If you have any other questions or it doesn’t make sense, PM me.
Go here: http://forums.thebump.com/profile/signature. The page can also be found by clicking the icon of a person’s head at the top right of your screen under the brown header, then “Signature Settings.”
Type whatever you want into that box. If you want to add an image, use the “Add Image” button. Highlight something (text or picture), then click “Insert Hyperlink” to add a link. You have to highlight the part that you want to be a link before you can click “Insert Hyperlink.” If you highlight a picture, the picture itself becomes clicky.
Here’s the “Add Image” button, and the “Insert Hyperlink” one is right next to it, but it’s grayed out because I didn’t have anything selected.
To change back to your “old” siggy:
If your signature disappeared or reverted to an old one when the Bump format changed, and you already had a siggy that you liked in the old Bump, you can copy and paste it to the new one.
Get your old siggy – you probably know how to do this, it’s where you used to change it. Quick link: http://www.thebump.com/profiles/currentusername/settings/avatar/index. Copy whatever is there. Then, go here: http://forums.thebump.com/profile/signature-- this is the new signature page which will actually change your signature, the old one won’t do anything anymore.
You’ll see a box for your signature code, if it’s blank, you’re off to a good start. If it shows an old siggy that you don’t want, delete whatever’s in there. Then click the “View Source” button, it’s the 2nd button from the end and looks like a piece of paper with <> on it. THAT is where you want to paste your “old” signature that you copied. If you put it in the box before you click “View Source”, it will show up with all the little codes and brackets, etc. and won’t display the pictures or create links.
After you paste it, you can click "View Source" again to go back to the regular view and make sure everything looks right. If you want to change something, go ahead. Then make sure you click "Save" - I don't think it warns you or anything if you forget to save your changes.
NOTE: If your original signature had anything with these brackets: [ ], those things won’t work (like [IMG] or [URL].) Your signature has to have plain text and/or HTML. HTML uses the < > type brackets and lots of quotes.
If you use the buttons above the signature box, like “Add Image,” it creates the HTML for you and you don’t even have to think about it. If you want to learn about HTML, they have a link right there. If you add HTML yourself, from what I can tell, you have to add it when viewing the source, otherwise it converts it to text and shows all the code instead of whatever you were using the code for (links, pictures, etc.)
