Appt. update

Well, fortunately LO's heart rate is great and the flow in the cord is great. Unfortunately, she is in the 13th percentile and hasn't shown a significant growth so they believe she won't grow much more. She was 4 lbs. 12 oz. today. Due to her size, her abdominal circumference measuring small and that she isn't showing growth, the specialist said that they won't let me go past 38 weeks. She believes that there will be too much stress and pressure on her if we leave her be longer than that. I will be 36 weeks on Sunday. We meet with our regular OB on Tuesday and will schedule the induction for sometime between 37-38 weeks. I will continue to have NST's every Tuesday/Friday until she's here.

I did not want to be induced, but since it is medically necessary, I obviously won't object. She did tell me that since she is little, that the induction could be harder on her so there's a high chance for a c-section. I am nervous because there isn't an NICU at our hospital, so if it's needed, she will have to be transferred. At the moment fortunately, she said that the reason why she would see that the NICU would be a possibility is if the labor is hard on her and causes distress.

FI and I are going to do some crazy preparations to finish getting all ready for LO. Also, we've been advised to go purchase some preemie outfits and diapers because she's only expected to be around 5 lbs. (Yes, I know the US measurements are just estimates.) We've definitely put some things off, thinking we would have another month from today, ha! LO has different plans. I'm trying to remain calm and not stress about it, but it is nerve wracking. T&P please.

Thanks for letting me chit chat about all of this, it really does help. I'm sure many other Aug. 13'ers can say that this board has definitely helped many nerves!!

Which hospital are you delivering in?? Well, I guess I know the answer to that since the one I'm delivering in definitely has a NICU..that stinks! Is your insurance going to cover if you have to transfer over? I hope they do, because it's really not your fault that via christi doesn't have an NICU.

@Elauren88 - We are actually delivering at a hospital in OK. That is where we are living for the time being until FI gets his job transferred back to KS.

(Hopefully soon!!) I'm hoping insurance will cover, I didn't even think about that, though. I will have to look into that!

Gerber runs really small, if you're looking for clothing! I found Gerber NB to be about the size of premie clothes purchased elsewhere.

Sending t&p! I also agree with pp about gerber brand clothes. My sister gave us a ton of clothes, and the gerber brand newborn size is so much smaller than the Carter's and other brands.

I just had a similar appt today, and will have a potential induction a week from tomorrow depending on what the growth scan shows next week.

I agree that it's a weird place to be in. Part of me is excited to potentially meet our little guy sooner than expected, but the other part is nervous of a long and lengthy induction. And in my case, there is still a chance that he'll have a growth spurt and no induction will be needed at all. The unknowns kill me!

Good luck to you! You may want to hold off on buying too many preemie clothes. My 5.5 pounder was too big for them and my 4 pounder NICU baby was too long for them. I also recommend the Gerber clothes. Not sure if Target still carries them, but the Gerber Just Born size was perfect!
