So sick of baby colds!!

Ugh, I just need to vent. DS has yet another cold, and this one is making him so uncomfortable he could hardly sleep last night. He was up every hour or two, which meant I was too. Why can't I just give him some darn cold medicine to knock him out so we can both get some rest?? None of the home remedies are helping: humidifer, honey, even nursing can't get him down. Now he's babbling away in his crib instead of taking a nap, which he and I both desperately need. I feel so guilty but I am wishing I was at work and he was at daycare right now!!

  • That is so frustrating! Do you have the Nose Frida? That gave us some relief.

  • Thanks ladies. We do have a nose frida but DS thinks it's a torture device. He'll sort of put up with the bulb syringe so that's what we use, though you're right, the nose frida is much better (he let us use it when he was really little). I will try the baby vicks tonight! He is finally down for a nap (it is 2:30pm here). I am right behind him. :)
  • Is he feeling up to some extra warm baths? The steam always helps break up that congestion. When my son has a cold, I'll sometimes let him splash around a few times a day and attack him with the nose frida afterward when it's loosened up.

He loves the bath, and he'll get one later today. Yesterday his cough was pretty wet and nose really runny, but today it seems to be tightening up and settling in his chest, so he could use some steam.
But he slept much better last night! And went down easy for a nap just now. I attribute it to the Baby Vicks! :)
  • I think DD and I caught your cold thru this post! I commented and the next day, I got stuffy...two days later, DD is stuffy! She used to be fine with Nose Frida. Now it is torture! Ps...cute new siggy pic!

Yuck, sorry! :) I hope you both feel better soon. I am coming down with DS's cold today. Get some Vick's Baby Rub for DD! It's the only thing that really seemed to help DS. Who knows, maybe I'll be using some tonight too, haha.

And thanks! My mom taught him that. :D

  • I think we are on week 9 of baby colds.  I'm so over it. It has been so long I have lost count! When we were in the office last, her pedi said we were almost out of respiratory season, so we should be almost out of the colds. Not so much. The nurse said to try elevating the head of her bed with a bath towel under the mattress.  She said that although they are all over the crib at night, the best sleep is right after they go down, so hopefully the elevation will help a bit during that time.

Ohh, that's good to know. I had thought of that but DS isn't oriented the same way throughout the night. Thanks, I hope your DD gets well soon and gives you a break!!

I'm with you ladies on being sick of the colds.  DD has a cold right now and we were up several times in the night.  I have a feeling that tonight will be more of the same.  She was sooooo needy and clingy and whiny all day long.  I felt like I got next to nothing done.  It felt like I was trying to walk through a whack load of mud with heavy bricks on my feet ;)  I love her, but boy was it difficult to get anything done.  I ended up doing the dishes with her strapped to my chest in the ergo.  Talk about working up a sweat!  lol.  Right now, I've put her to bed early, with vicks, tylenol, and a humidifier.  She's now awake less than 2 hrs later and having trouble sleeping already.  Fun fun fun.
Ugh, I feel you. I hope she's feeling better soon. I like your wading through mud analogy. DS appears to now be teething also, and was up a ton last night. Today I'm home sick with his cold (by myself, he's at DC so I can sleep). Ugggh...
