Babies: 3 - 6 Months

Bumper

When did you feel comfortable putting a bumper in the crib? Not like one of those mesh breathable ones, but like a legit bumper? My daughter rolls around like a crazy person in the night and hits her head on the slats constantly. I want to give her some cushion but obviously I'd rather her hit her head that suffocate. Has anyone done any research or have any experience with this?

I did after two months.. Unpopular but I was tired of her getting her legs stuck..

I have a Daughter born 2/26/2013. She is pretty much amazing!

  • We put one on our crib two months ago... My lo is 5 months now. He never puts his face near it. He is wearing leg braces so if we didn't have one he would constantly wake himself up getting his braces caught or banging them.

I think DD1 was about 8 months old. She kept getting her legs stuck and screaming repeatedly for a few nights.

  • DD has always had them on her crib, since Day 1 (GASP!) she has plenty of air circulation in her wide open crib and a ceiling fan above her. We've never had to worry about slamming her head or getting any limbs stuck in the slats and she loves to stare at the pattern on them.

  • Not judging, since I'm sure I do things with LO that are not ideal, like bed sharing at times, but I'm always so interested in the varied responses. If you want the answer to "when should I use bumpers?" the answer is indeed "never." (see AAP guidelines, here's a link to a news article from a few years ago: https://www.cnn.com/2011/10/18/health/no-bumpers-cribs-sids-parenting). If you want am answer to the question "do people use bumpers anyway?" well apparently that's a yes! I personally would use mesh bumpers. Safety over aesthetics, eh?
