Bumper in Crib

When would you feel comfortable putting a bumper in the crib? Not one of those mesh breathable ones, like a real bumper? I can hear my daughter rolling around and bumping her head on the crib slats all night long haha and I want to give her a little cushion...but would obviously rather be safe and let her hit her head.

Anyone do any research about this or have any experience?

I wouldn't/ Ive caught LO with her face against the crib bars too many times (like full frontal face against bars) too be comfortable with it. The mesh bumpers help a little with cushioning and not getting her little limbs stuck.

I'm debating this now... physiotherapist said it is ok to put bumpers in now for LO, since he's mobile enough to roll into and out of the bumper. i.e. the risk of the bumper is suffocation, but if baby is mobile and able to move themselves away to avoid suffocation it might be ok.  That being said, I'm still not sure I want to risk it.  I'd rather him get a little lump on his head!  Not to mention that since PBK discontinued the Lahaina bedding, I can't really buy the matching bumper since I didn't buy earlier.

I'm curious about this too.  LO was napping yesterday and she scoots her way up to the end of the crib.  She scooted so hard I heard a bang and then she cried for 5 minutes.  She is 4 1/2 months though, and doesn't roll over yet.

Ill put it in when he starts sticking limbs in the slats. Honestly, his bassinet had the equivalent of bumpers and was much smaller and he stuck his face in them from time to time and lived. His crib is much, much larger and I don't see the "airflow" being compromised in there. Plus, if they can roll, they can move to breathe better. Otherwise, you'll probably hear them crying about it.

I've never used a bumper.  Even with my 2 yo, he never had a bumper.  He got his leg caught twice I think in the 21 months he was in the crib.  I think once he started standing/pulling himself up, he would have used the bumper to climb out or get higher and then we have a whole other situation.  So no bumper for us.

I had a bumper for my DD and I have one in my 4 month old DS crib. Now my DD didnt sleep in her crib until she was about 7 months and DS is currently in the PnP next to my bed but its something I never worried about. If they can move they wont suffocate, just make sure there is nothing restricting their movement.

I've been wanting to put something in the crib because LO moves around A LOT at night and is frequently hitting her head and feet on the sides of the crib. It doesn't seem to bother her that much, but as she gets bigger and stronger, I'm worried she'll hurt herself. My SIL bought Go Mama Go Designs Wonder Bumpers and raves about them. They are so soft and cushiony. I'm going to order them through Amazon. They are pricey but worth it IMO. No worries about suffocation. There may still be a risk of baby getting limbs stuck in between the slats, but it seems it would hurt less with these bumpers.

I've been debating this over the past week or so myself since DD has now started getting her arms unswaddled in the MOTN and pulling herself to the side of the crib using one of the slats.  Every morning she has an arm in the slats, sometimes wrapped around one like she's holding on and she's even gotten her feet (in the swaddle sack mind you) in between the slats.  I'm just nervous about the suffocating thing.  Plus - we had the matching bumper but returned it once our pedi said no bumpers in the beginning.  I'd hate to have to buy something we returned . . .

I used a bumper in my daughter's crib 12 years ago, currently have one in my son's crib who is 4 months old, and plan to have one in the crib when our son/daughter arrives next March.  Of course you have to go with what you are comfortable with.
