Re: Pregnant & TTC After a Preemie Check In 7/25/13

  • I posted on last week's update about my dr appt. since then I talked to dh about wanting to wait until ds is 2 to start trying again. He wants to start sooner and seems really upset about waiting. One of the reasons I want to wait is because I don't want a winter due date in case we have a preemie. Is that crazy? Those that had winter preemie, is it as scary as I'm thinking it would be IF it happened? I don't want to hurt dh but I'm scared!!

  • Hi! We're not TTC-ing yet. We're waiting until we get home from vacation (Labor Day) as we'll be hitting up the wineries  :)

We're currently waiting for some genetics testing to come back. We got DS tested after he was born and found out he has a duplication of a gene which causes some issues (he's okay though... nothing life threatening). The geneticist suggested both DH and I get tested as well since we're thinking about TTC-ing... so I'm not-so-patiently waiting for test results. Our appointment is in mid-August.

I did not have a preemie in the winter, but he was born at 26 weeks late June. He came home at the end of October so it was definitely scary for us. To make matters worse, we were living with his parents (long story) so we had no control over who came over. However, they never really had visitors when DS was little. Just family over for Christmas. I freaked out when one of the kids started coughing, but everyone was really good about using hand sanitizer before holding the baby and DS did not end up getting sick.

I completely understand your fears-even with my full term baby now, my hands are already dry and cracking from my hand washing. I feel like I am the most neurotic mom ever because of my experience. I know it is MUCH easier said than done, but it is hard to live a life and make decisions based on fear. I feel like that's how I have been even with things that are not baby related. I had a mmc between DS and DD at 10 weeks and I was adamant with DH that I wanted nothing to do with being pg ever again. The emotions I went through after having a preemie and a mmc were strong and raw that I never thought I would want to TTC again. Obviously, I changed my mind eventually because deep inside I did not feel whole until I had baby #2. Also, as preemie parents we all know that we can plan all we want about when we want our babies conceived and born, but just because you guys are TTC in certain months, it doesn't necessarily mean you will have a winter baby for sure.

I am not saying at all that you should change your mind. I am just telling you my story in hopes that it will help you in your decision making. Like I have said before, communication is the key and I hope that you and DH can compromise on this matter.

  • Had a U/S today, baby girl is weighing in at 3 lbs, 6 oz, she's in the 34% fetal growth from what they said. I do fetal counts each night & journal them down to make sure there are no decreased fetal movements. Next appointment is 8/7, starting after that week I will have a weekly u/s til LO arrives. Just trying to make it pass the 36 weeks mark.

  • Still having contractions. At my cervical length ultrasound on Monday, the mfm thought that she saw some funneling, but I was having too many contractions to get an accurate measurement. I'm going back on Monday for another try.

Praying that your contractions stop. Your currently on p17 shots? MFM thinking possible bed rest?

Update: I'm still around checking out the boards, putting my two cents in. Haha. Caroline is 16 months and finally got her first tooth or teeth I should say at 15 months old.We are working on 4 right now. Figures she get them all at once. My oldest Annabelle is doing well, can't believe she will be 4 soon. Seems so long ago that we were in the NICU.

Praying that all of you make it full term. I'll be checking in from time to time.

  • Well, the good news is I made it another week with little to no cervical change!  Maybe thinned out a little more, but still holding steady around 1.5cm dilated.  I am officially past the point I was admitted with DS and by Monday I will be more pregnant than I have ever been.

Bad news is that it looks as though I have Cholestasis.  Only one level in my liver is off, but I've been itching like crazy and with my history they will watch me even more closely now...so weekly MFM and OB appts.  It is also possible they will induce at 37 weeks.  I'd rather avoid induction, because it can further increase my chances of another retained placenta, but whatever is the safest for my little girl.

    2 years, 2 surgeries, 2 clomid fails, 2 IUIs, 1 loss, IVF #1 - 10/25/10 = BFP!, DS is now 3.5yrs!
    TTC #2 - 6/12 surgery #3, FET #1 & 1.2 = BFN, 12/2012 FET #2 = BFP! DD is 1.5 yrs!
    Surprise! 12/16/14 BFP, loss #2 12/31/14

I can't wait for the "im getting a divorce" post in 5 years or so because your husbands were fed up with your disgusting chair asses from playing on the knot all day and getting fired 4-5 times for not doing any work. you guys are all winners!! ~ Laur929

  • As of today I am officially more pregnant then I was with DD( 35 weeks)! My dr appointment went well yesterday the baby is measuring small so my dr is sending me for a growth u/s which will be Thursday. On my dr's office u/s machine she is measuring 3 weeks behind. Dd was a peanut at 3lb13 oz when I had her at 35 weeks so he thinks I just make small babies.
