6 Weeks Pregnant

Symptoms are Ruining my "Cover"

My husband and I are expecting our first child in March. It's been difficult to keep the secret, as I know it is for many, but we've been doing a pretty good job. However, my first trimester symptoms have kicked up a notch now that I'm in week 6. The thing that's the biggest pain is morning sickness (or all day sickness/nausea). I'm lucky because I'm a teacher so I haven't had to go into work or be around my coworkers. However, summer school is going to start back up on Mon. (July 29) and I'm worried about getting through the mornings. I've found different techniques and cures that work off and on, depending on the day, but most of the time I feel "flu-ish" and nauseated. I'm worried that other staff members are going to catch on with what's happening. Especially with how much I need to go to the bathroom! Everyone has been asking me when my husband and I were going to start trying. I suppose that's a natural question after two years of marriage. So I feel like everyone is going to be suspicious and making assumptions. This doesn't really bother me, I'm just not ready to tell yet since it's so early (6w 3d) and I would hate for something to happen and then have to explain to everyone when school starts. Any suggestions on how to hide my symptoms better or handle interrogations/questions? Thanks!

  • I am not sure I have any advise, but can share what happened with my bosses when I told them- I am six weeks and four days, but since we saw the heartbeat my OBGYN says we are 90% out of the woods.  We decided to tell my bosses, since we are currently planning for the summer/fall semesters next year (I run a university research center). They both were SO overjoyed for my husband and I, one of them actually starting crying happy tears and whooping loudly.  I now have carte blanche permission to take a cat nap midday, have a little emotion now and then, and take advantage of my officemates' collective knowledge on nausea remedies.

Not sure if this helps, but I hope that when you decide to tell you have as great an experienceas I did!
