Just curious... do you find work to do during the summer? If so, what do you do?
I'm just enjoying being a sahm for the 10ish weeks we are off, but feel a little guilty for not bringing in extra income. I think I'd rather tutor for extra money during the school year and keep summers work-free!
Re: Teachers
I'm not a teacher, but I wouldn't feel guilty if I were you. Aren't you saving money by keeping your kids at home anyways? I'd stay home as well and just make sure I maybe took on a few more chores around the house since I'm home and H would be working. Other than that, enjoy your time with your kids.
I'd say no. I remember being younger and wanting to be a teacher and not even thinking about having the summer off...I really thought I'd enjoy teaching and being around kids. Turns out that isn't true
I think some people do and usually those are the ones that use teaching as something to do not a career they chose. If that makes sense.
I'm a teacher. I'm at a year - round school. (I should be setting up my classroom today....not surfing The Bump!!) I work 10 weeks, get three off. It's great! This schedule makes traveling pretty easy and allows me time for prep throughout the year.
I have to pay for DC no matter what. DCP gives me a discount in July each year providing DD is not in DC as much.
I actually keep her in DC some during the breaks, to keep the routine going and to give me time to do my things: doctors appointments, lunch with friends, work out, and classroom prep. It's a great balance. I haven't looked for extra work. I've thought about it, but life is pretty full with a LO (and one more on the way!). If I was at a traditional school, I'd consider something with minimal obligations during the 9-11 week summer. Perhaps volunteering for a cause I enjoy......
Happy summer!
