How do you count baby's age?

Do you consider them to be a month old at 4 weeks or on the date they were born in the following month?

Re: How do you count baby's age?

  • I consider it at the date they were born the next month. 4 weeks = 28 days and every month except Feb has more than that.
    BFP#1 6/4/12 EDD 2/10/13 M/C 6/12/12
    BFP#2 9/28/12 EDD 6/5/13 J.B. born 6/6/13

This. If you age them up a month every 4 weeks the baby will turn one a month before their birthday.

  • Same here as everyone else. I have a friend whom delivered her DD the day after I did, and it drove me batty when she posted on the 5th that her DD was a month old. No, your DD is 4 weeks old today, and will be 1 month on the 7th.

  • Lol. I said 4 weeks until I thought about the math! I've heard new moms say the 4 weeks because of excitement!
  • Date they were born on the following month. Otherwise they'd turn 1 a lot sooner than their first birthday. :)

  • I am so happy others count months by date and not weeks! Both DH and my MIL made comments about DD being one month old when she was 4 weeks and I spent way too much time and energy explaining how this is not possible. But then again, I'm sure these are the same people that argue women are pregnant for 10 months, not 9.
I argue the 10 month thing too. Although I say lunar months.
