Pregnant after IF

Vacationing while pregnant?

I'd love to know if others are as crazy as I am. :)  I'm going away just for 4 days to our family's beach house along the Jersey Shore (LBI for those local).  I asked my MFM if after the SCH if it's ok to be that far from my dr's and hospital and she said sure.  I can't help but to be nervous!!!  We're also planning a long weekend in May in October when I'll be 23 weeks along and I'm really hesitating going.  Going away from my dr's just scares me! I give so much credit to those ladies who babymoon and just relax on an island somewhere, thousands of miles away from medical help .  How do you PAIF ladies feel about vacationing away from your regular dr.'s?
Me (37) DH (39); PCOS changed to Unexplained, changed to DOR in 2012 (finally a correct diagnosis!);
Started TTC 2009 with RE after 6 months.
Clomid + Trigger x2;
IUI + Femara x1,
IUI + Follistim x2;
IVF #1 (MDL) February 2013- BFN.
IVF #2 (antagonist) May 2013, First BFP of my life.
Identical twin miracle BOYS (!!) headed our way- due date is technically 2/4/14 but c section is scheduled for 1/7!

Re: Vacationing while pregnant?

  • My response may be different given the fact that I haven't had any complications during this pregnancy.  This weekend DH and I are going about 5 hours from home for a long weekend and in August when I will be about 25 weeks along we are going to Ireland for a week.

    I am sure I want not feel as comfortable going on these trips if I had any complications

    I was nervous about going to the lake this past weekend! I think it's because I went to Belize in February earlier this year and my baby stopped growing during my time there. We discovered the missed m/c at 8 weeks and the baby had not grown after 6w3d which was while I was there. I'm sure you will have a wonderful and relaxing time.
  • My husband and I are planning a trip over Labor Day weekend, but we will only be an hour and a half from home so I'm not concerned. I am supposed to be a bridesmaid in my friends wedding when I am 24 weeks, and I am very nervous about that because it is a 12 hour drive. I don't plan on making a decision just yet, but I might have to bail which makes me feel terrible. I know my friend will understand though if I can't go.

  • I'd only hesitate if there was absolutely no medical care within a several hour drive of where you'd be, which doesn't sound like that would be the case for you.  As long as there is a hospital I could access if needed, it wouldn't need to be my specific doctor or hospital.  Once you are close to delivery, then I think there's more need to stick closer to home and limit travel.
    Married 8/2008. IVF with PGD March 2013.

  • We traveled to Key West when I was 16 weeks. I am considered high risk due to an early diagnosis of GD. I had to travel with insulin, which was an adventure but not really an issue. I was uneasy about being so far from my drs, but in the end nothing serious went wrong. I was aware of where I could get treatment in Fla just in case. Suggestions.....stay hydrated and cool. Use sunblock (I got burnt very quickly, which is unusual for me outside of pregnancy). Most of all, have fun and relax!!!
    Can't figure out the signature thing, so here's the short, short version.....first daughter born on November 10, 2013. She was conceived through the magic of IVF after 2+ years of TTC.
  • We flew to Puerto Rico when I was 21 weeks, and it was awesome. I was feeling great by then, and knew that I was close enough to medical care should I need it. I also travel a bunch for work and have to fly all over the country and have had no problems doing so up until this point. I say go for it and try to relax. If it makes you feel better, scope out good hospitals and doctors nearby just in case, but hopefully you won't need them at all.

    Try to enjoy this time that it's just you and YH before baby comes!

  • We are flying to Portland to visit my MIL over Labor Day weekend and to Hawaii for a babymoon in October. As of right now I'm not stressed about, but there's a chance that will change as I get closer I'm sure!  But I figure at least we are in the US and will have access to good medical care.  For a little while we talked about Mexico for our honeymoon, but we changed our mind once we thought about might needing medical care.

  • i am going to LBI soon too!  if you aren't considered high risk and things look good, i don't see why you can't travel.   you are still near hospitals if you absolutely need them!

  • I'm planning to go to the beach at 32 weeks, but I'm going to double check to make sure its ok.  I figure they'll just have us stop the car fairly frequently so I can get out and walk.
