So this morning I was still thinking that maybe DS was just sick. I was believing that was the reason for wayyy more spitup, fussiness and refusal to feed or finish bottles. I even made a pedi appt for this afternoon.
I think I am wrong. I was just feeding DS. He took the bottle without screaming. He had about an ounce left when he refluxed and then screamed and refused to take anymore. A call to the pedi GI has already been made . Things had been going so well. He is on 1 ml of Zantac 3x/day and thickened feeds (1 tsp of oatmeal/ounce) which are doing NOTHING. Ughh I'm frustrated.
Re: Reflux mamas - update from yesterday
Few tips - when did he start the zantac. Zantac and other long term effect meds usually take several days to really kick in.
Also, if he has gained weight since then he will need to be re-weighed and the dosage will likely go up. I had to do that several times between 2 and 5 months w/ my DS.
Another thing, my SIL had 3 kids w/ reflux, for some reason ,zantac didnt work for them and they all did great when they switched to prilosec.
I have always heard from docs and other reliable sources not to thicken formula and that it wont do anything and is actually bad b/c they can be more likely to choke on thicker stuff.
Hope that helps!!
