Poll: Egg Donation

When I was in college I used to always see ads for companies seeking egg donors.  I have heard stories of women who paid for college, homes, or trips around the world by selling their eggs.  The idea intrigued me, but I was never in a position where it was a necessary consideration.

Now that I have a little one, I don't look at it the same way.  I have seen what just one of my little eggs can grow into.  I would not be opposed to donating my eggs to a family member or close friend, but I know I could not do it now for cash.

What do you think?  Did you ever think about it before,  what do you think about it now that you are a mom?

Re: Poll: Egg Donation

  • I would never do that but I know someone who has.

  • Only for my closest loved ones.  Never for money and never to someone I don't love like crazy.
  • Not right now, but if I were done having kids, I would consider it.  There are many people out there who have problems having children & will do anything to have them.  If my eggs can help them, than that is awesome.

  • I actually went in to become a donor a few years ago (one of my friends had just gotten pregnant this way and I wanted to help someone else). This was how I found out I had PCOS and was told I'd probably never have children of my own - HAHA.
  • I definitely would.  Why not?  You're helping your own family and someone else's at the same time.
  • I would do it either way. My son is an unbelievable gift and if I could help someone else receive that gift as well. I can't explain how happy that would make me. But I would probably think about doing it after I am done having kids.

I honestly have never seen an add for something like that though.

I guess that's my thinking too. If I've seen what a beautiful thing one of my eggs can turn into, then I'd probably be willing to help someone who can't have a child. I wouldn't be a surrogate for just anyone, but I would donate my eggs.

Exactly.  I would only be a surrogate for immediate family.  That is way too personal for me.  I think even that decision would take a lot of time to make if the situation came up. You get so attached to the child growing inside you... I can't even think of that one.  LOL!

  • I wouldn't do it only because I've seen reports that show there's potential health problems that can arise from this (you're being pumped full of hormones)  I don't really see anything wrong with the theory behind it though.  No one thinks twice about men donating sperm.  It's the same thing

  • I'm the exact opposite of you. I would NEVER have done it until now. Now that I have a baby and know this great love, I would donate eggs so someone else who can't use their own could know this joy.

    ?

But my eggs aren't wanted, they are crappy. ?

Having done 2 IVFs and many months of other treatments, one egg donation would hardly be more harmful than recreational drugs, or even HRT, which many people do without thinking.

If I could, I would do it in a heartbeat. Unfortunately, I just don't produce enough eggs.
