When to take out head/neck support in carseat?

DD is not a fan of her carseat, and I am trying to figure out ways to keep her in there longer before switching to the Britax - I know it is much safer when she is only 5 months!  I still have the head/neck support in there even though she is almost sitting up.  I figure it would help support her little neck if something happened.  I think this might be what is bothering her so much but I don't know if I should take it out?

Any advice is appreciated!  TIA!!

  • Ours came out a long time ago too. I think you are only supposed to leave them in until they reach 12lbs. At least I think that is the case for the Chicco. It's meant for newborns.
  • We took DD's out a couple weeks ago.  She needed more room.  We also had to move the straps up to the higher level.
  • Mine came with the seat and it said to take it out when they hit 11 pounds. She seems much happier in there since I took it out. She is 9 weeks old and she has hated the seat since day 1.

That is only for the bottom seat part. The neck support can be left in as long as you want.

  • We still have our head support in the chicco seat too.  DS has torticollis and the less it can slump to the one side when he sleeps in his seat the better.  But he likes his carseat and falls asleep within seconds of pulling out of our driveway.  We took the bottom part out around 10lbs as well.
