Call Dr. for a little cough??

DS has been coughing and a tiny bit congested since yesterday.  No fever, just whiny and droopy.  I know he just has a little cold/cough so is it necessary to call the dr.?  There is nothing he can really take, so I was thinking he is ok as long as he doesn't get more congested.  I am watching him closely.

Re: Call Dr. for a little cough??

  • Personally, I woudn't call for that.  But, if the cough got really wet or hacking, then I would call.

Take him in the bathroom and run the shower on hot and the steam may help him a little.

  • Ever since my dc has started daycare (the first week of Nov), he has had a cold on and off. I took him to the doctor the last time he developed a cough w/his cold. I want to make sure it isnt in his lungs or he doesnt have that RSV.

My pedi recommended using the baby nasal spray and a humidifier. This has helped him out a lot. He started that cough again with his cold (kind of a loud/waking him up cough) last week and I took him back. My pedi said if he develops a fever w/his cold and cough, bring him back asap.Just watch him and do what you think is best. Wink

  • Without a fever, I wouldn't call.  Like you said, there's really nothing he can do anyway, so it's probably more traumatic to take the little guy to the pedi than it would be worth.  Definitely keep an eye on him though and if he stops eating or gets a fever, then I'd call.  I hope your little guy feels better soon!
