1st Trimester

Cramping anyone?

I got a BFP a few days ago and I am around 5 weeks. Today I started to getting cramps in my lower abdomen that are getting me all anxious and worried and I was wondering if anyone else has had this, should it be something I worry about or is it normal? It it not a painful cramp, more of a stretching or bloating dull crampy feeling. I have had a MC before, and I am praying this is not another one - I am hoping I am over thinking it?

Thanks!?

Re: Cramping anyone?

  • i know AF-like cramps are normal/common in early pregnancy. i definitely had them. i'd be worried if they were really painful and accompanied with spotting.

  • Thanks for the help, I will google it and see what comes up. I went for a hike this morning that was not at all strenuous, but I am worrying that this may have caused it.?

    Thanks!?

  • Unless your cramping get severe or is accompanied by bleeding, it's normal. I started getting moderate cramps around the time I was expecting my period, so I kept assuming I would get my period at any time. I've tested positive, and I'm still getting the same cramping.
  • I get cramps when I work out too, even if it's a really low key excercise. It's annoying, but common.

  • I got a lot of cramping in week 5 and 6, especially after exercise or exertion.  It's normal but like PP said, if accompanied by spotting may be something more serious.
  • Thank you for the positive information everyone, it really does help! It feels like in the past few days all I can do is over-analyze every single twinge my body gives me. Lets hope that with time, my imagination settles in and I stop worrying so much!!?
  • i had cramping the first few weeks after my bfp... on and off, but fairly often. it's pretty normal - as long as it's not horrible pain and not accompanied by bleeding. try not to worry!

It's hard not to overanalyze your symptoms, especially if you experienced a m/c before.  I have had dull cramps throughout the day today localized on my left side -- seems like the majority of people have them.  I am not going to get worried unless I see pink/red blood.

  • Seems that "cramping" seems to be one of the most common posts on 1st Tri.....at least 2-3 posts a day about it...which, makes me think that it's VERY normal!  I like my cramping from the past 3-5 weeks..makes me feel like something is actually going on down there!! ;)
  • yes, i agree that it seems normal- unless there is bleeding, i think you are ok- i have also heard that exercise increases the likelihood of cramping- i had cramping from week of my expected pd to end of wk 5 (early wk 6) and the common response seems to be that your uterus is stretching to make room for your growing baby. ;)
