When we were at her house for Christmas he finally saw just how delayed Christopher is with his language/etc. He's at a 6 months old level and he's 15 months old. She kept saying that she was worried about how "off" he was and asked me if we had his hearing checked, etc. Then she was like "Well, he is the youngest and I'm sure you just didn't get to spend the time you do with him like you did with the other kids." Actually mom, I spend more time with him than I do with the other 3 combined.
Re: My mom finally "got" it
OMG. I would have lost.my.shit if she'd have said that to me.
I kinda did considering I was working when the twins were younger and went back to college when my oldest was 2 weeks old!
You are not alone!
My mom had a really hard time accepting that my son is different, it's only been recently actually. I think she doesn't want to admit it (neither do I sometimes) and she doesn't live with it everyday, so it's harder for her to see.
And I HATE getting the comments implying that it's something to do with my parenting. For the longest time my dad kept saying "if you'd just stop babying him he'd talk" .
