What do you do with your 7 week old?

I have no clue how to interact with DD sometimes and I feel like such a bad mom for it.  I try to "play" with her:  i put her on the play mat and talk to her, sing to her, i hold her and cuddle with her, but for the most part I feel like I'm not entertaining enough or I feel like I'm just not giving her as much attention as she needs.  What do you do with your DC during the day?  How much interaction do you share wtih your DC?

  • I pretty much do the same with my DD.  That's what they need right now so don't feel bad!

  • I put him on my lap and play with his feet, talk to him and sing with him.  I also dance with him when he is in the sling.  Unfortunately I just realized that I might be over doing it.  I always feel guilty not playing with him when he is awake but he is always cranky in the evening.   Well I watched my DH hang out with him for the day and he didn't spend nearly as much time as me interacting with my DS and by the end of the night my DS was much calmer.  I think I overstimulate him so next week I am going to try and find a happy medium.
  • Yes, they are easily over stimulated so what you're doing is probably enough.  At that age and now I just talk to her, tummy time, or read to her during her alert periods (not all in one period tho).  GL!
  • I do pretty much the same stuff you do.  And I totally have that guilt of not doing enough.  But I can tell when he has had enough of me and wants to be on his own.  If he's fussing when I hold him and calms down once I put him in his swing or just in the PnP, then I feel better about giving him his alone time.  They need that every now and then.
  • thanks, gals.  i guess i need to realize that dd needs her "space" just like I do lol  Maybe cutitng back on stimulation will cut back on some of the fussiness at night!
