Induction Question

I am going to the hospital tomorrow evening for cervidil(sp?) and was wondering how many of you had a successful induction and how long after they started the pitocin you were in labor. I am not yet dialated but will be 41 weeks tomorrow. Thanks in advance!

Re: Induction Question

  • I was given the Cervadil Wed. night (I was at 2cm and 50% before the Cervadil). They started the pitocin the next morning at 6am and I was in active labor by about 3pm. He was born at 7:50pm.

  • I was induced the at 41 weeks too. Mine went well I was so surprised but thrilled. I had a foley bulb induction no cervidil. I progressed fast after they gave me pitocin my induction started 11pm and I had her at 10:50 am so it was just under 12 hours which is pretty fast from what they said. GL!!
  • My water broke and I wasn't feeling any contractions, so they had to give me Cervadil. They gave that to me at about 4:45am and then Pitocin soon after that. They thought that I wouldn't be fully dilated until dinnertime, but DD was born early afternoon - so the stuff works fast! GL!

  • I had success with induction...I was worried too that I would end up with a C-section.  I went in Sunday night for cervidil, started contractions almost immediately after it was inserted. They started me on pitocin Monday morning at 8am and I had DC Tuesday at 12:10am.  I should have had the baby earlier but they had to stop the pitocin because the baby's heart rate dropped at one point.  Good luck!  I hope it goes well!
  • I was induced at 37 weeks, and started cervadil 2pm on a Tuesday, and did not have DS until 3:45am on Friday. But I did not respond well to the pitocin, cervidil thinned out my cervix fine, but labor was slow....I don't think I am a very good example though...
  • I went to the hospital on a Tuesday early evening for induction due to complications (I was only 38 weeks) and not dilated or effaced. ?They kept trying to induce me, with all sorts of drugs and they tried to break my water on 2 occasions. ?Finally around 4 am on Thursday, my water broke and I dilated pretty fast after that. ?I gave birth at 1 in the afternoon that day. ?They threatened a c-section, but I said no unless either of us was in danger. ?Also, I had back labor and they wanted to use the suction - I also said no unless medically necessary and in the end didn't need it. ?I did have an epidural. ?So I would say it was a success, but it took much longer to get started then I thought. ?Also, one thing that I didn't know - which I was later told was not unusual is that with the induction drugs, I retained a lot of fluid - and when I mean a lot - I actually weighed more when I left the hospital than before I gave birth. ?Luckily over the next 2 weeks it all came out in the form of pee.
  • I went in at 5am, got pitocin and had my water broken at 6ish, got the epidural aroung 10ish, began pushing around noon, and held DS at 2:40.  Pitocin makes the contractions come strong and fast from what I've gathered.

I was 39 weeks.  I was measuring big.

  • Cervadil didn't work for me and I was told they wouldn't start pitocin until I was dialated to a 2.  After 3 days of unsuccessful induction, my water broke but I was not progressing.  After 8 hours of contractions and still only dialated to 1, I got pitocin and that worked.
  • I had something other than cervadil on a Monday (I was maybe 1 cm when I went in for the gels); on Tuesday morning they checked and I was at 3cm; no progress on my own; Wednesday went in and they started pitocin at 9am, he was born at 10:36 pm after about 5 hours of active labor, 3 hours of pushing.  I was 41 weeks when he was born!  GOOD LUCK!

  • I started Cerv at 8p on Wednesday, Pit was started very slow at 6a Thursday. I started at maybe 1.5cm. Baby was born on Thursday about 5p. Totally successful induction in my opinion, I also didn't tear or anything else traumatic. I did get an epidural at 4cm because the contractions were really painful in my mind. Once I got the epidural, I went from 4cm-10 in literally about 2-3 hours.

  • I was 1 cm dialated when I went in at 7:00 a.m. to start my induction.  They started the pitocin at 8 and upped the dose every 30 minutes or so.  The dr. broke my water at 10; I got a pain shot at 11:30, epidural at 1:00.  I began pushing at 4:15 and had my baby in my arms at 4:45 pm.
  • With my first, the Cervidil didn't do anything for me - no contractions, dilation, etc.  Once my doctor broke my water and started the Pitocin, things started moving.  Pitocin was started at 7:00am, I started pushing at 5:00pm and had my baby at 6:38pm.  I was a fingertip dilated when I went in.

With my second, I was 3cm when I got to the hospital.  Pit was started around 7:00am and DS was born at 12:33pm.

I had two very successful inductions.
