How long do canned chipotles keep?

I'm making some soup and it needs one canned chipotle in adobo sauce. I opened a can a VERY long time ago and put the extras in the fridge- they've been in there for at least a year.?

Do you suppose that they're still good? Are they more or less like pickles or something like that that will last?indefinitely? ?

I don't think I'd use anything thats been in my fridge for a year.

I think once you open the can, then you have a definite amount of time in which they should be used.  Like a week.  In a can, I think they could last much longer.
